FinOps Specialist
FinOps Specialist
Location: London / Leeds / Manchester
Salary: £70,000 – £90,000 + package + DV allowance
About the Role
Our client is a major player in the UK’s digital, cyber and intelligence space, working at the forefront of national security and large-scale data-driven transformation.
They are hiring an AWS FinOps Specialist to take ownership of cloud cost optimisation across complex, high-impact environments. This is not a reporting role. You will be embedded with engineering and architecture teams, influencing how cloud is designed, built and scaled from a cost and value perspective.
There is a significant migration to AWS underway, so this role has immediate impact and visibility. You will shape FinOps strategy, guide senior stakeholders, and directly influence multi-million-pound cloud spend.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will operate across both strategy and delivery, working closely with technical and business teams.
- Driving FinOps best practices across AWS environments to improve cost efficiency and performance
- Advising architects and engineers on cost-aware cloud design from day one
- Analysing cloud spend, identifying optimisation opportunities, and implementing improvements
- Building business cases backed by data to support cost optimisation initiatives
- Engaging senior stakeholders to align cloud strategy with commercial objectives
- Developing and shaping FinOps capabilities and offerings internally
Ideal Background
This role is suited to someone who has already worked in large-scale AWS environments and understands how to balance cost, performance and scalability.
- Strong experience applying FinOps principles in enterprise environments
- Deep knowledge of AWS services, pricing models, and cost management tooling
- Proven ability to influence engineering and architecture decisions
- Experience working with senior stakeholders and translating technical insight into business value
- Background in regulated or government environments is useful but not essential
What You’ll Receive
- £70,000 – £90,000 base salary
- £7,000 DV bonus (tax free) once clearance is obtained
- Strong pension, bonus and flexible benefits package
- 25 days holiday with buy/sell options
- Clear progression with structured career support
- Exposure to high-impact national security programmes
Key Requirements
- Must be a sole British national (DV clearance eligibility)
- Willing to go through Developed Vetting (DV)
- Able to work on-site ~3 days per week on average
Who Should Apply
This suits someone who wants to move beyond pure cost reporting into true influence over cloud strategy and architecture, within environments where scale, security and impact are significantly higher than typical commercial roles.
