Lead Tech Architect - Remote

Our client is seeking a seasoned and highly capable Lead Technical Architect with deep expertise in cloud-native architectures. You will lead the design, implementation, and governance of advanced cloud infrastructure solutions supporting mission-critical systems. You will also provide strategic and technical leadership to build scalable, secure, and resilient platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design of secure, scalable cloud architectures using AWS, microservices, and serverless patterns.
  • Implement robust cloud security solutions ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Architect and manage containerised environments using Kubernetes for high availability and resilience.
  • Design and lead development of event-driven systems using Kafka for real-time, distributed data processing.
  • Oversee microservices-based system development, with a focus on modularity and Java-based back-end services.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to architecture and engineering teams.
  • Champion CI/CD, infrastructure as code (IaC), and automation for streamlined cloud service delivery.

Experience Required:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 8+ years of experience designing and implementing large-scale, distributed cloud systems (AWS-focused).
  • Extensive knowledge of AWS cloud security architecture and best practices (IAM, network security, encryption).
  • Deep expertise in containerisation (Docker) and orchestration with Kubernetes in production environments.
  • Proven experience with event-driven architectures and queue-based systems, especially Kafka.
  • Strong background in microservices architecture with hands-on Java backend development.
  • Proficient in CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation), and automation.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a track record of technical mentorship and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience with monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack) and cloud cost optimisation.
