Mainframe System Programmer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mainframe DB2 System Programmer to join a dynamic infrastructure engineering team, supporting mission-critical applications and data systems across enterprise platforms. The Role

The Mainframe DB2 System Specialist will be responsible for building, maintaining, and enhancing mainframe infrastructure that underpins key business operations. Working with cutting-edge tools and technologies, the role involves delivering secure, resilient, and automated solutions that support large-scale data systems and business applications.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and upgrade IBM DB2 and associated products, including DB2 CA, DB2 Connect, and Data Studio.
  • Oversee the performance, availability, and security of mainframe infrastructure and DB2 databases.
  • Develop and implement automation scripts to streamline operational processes and reduce manual intervention.
  • Monitor system health, identify issues, and resolve incidents efficiently using data-driven approaches.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, and product teams to deliver scalable, high-performing solutions aligned with business goals.
  • Apply best practices in system performance, incident management, and security compliance.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and contribute to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

 

Core Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a DB2 Systems Programmer on IBM z/OS platforms.
  • Strong technical knowledge of TSO, JCL, REXX, SQL, and performance monitoring techniques.
  • Expertise in DB2 configuration, tuning, and RACF security.
  • Hands-on experience with Broadcom and IBM Db2 tools, z/OSMF, and DevOps tooling such as VS Code and Db2 Developer Extensions.
  • A solid understanding of automation frameworks and infrastructure optimisation.

 

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with hybrid or cloud-integrated mainframe systems.
  • Exposure to modern DevOps practices and CI/CD automation within mainframe environments.
  • Familiarity with risk management, governance, and compliance frameworks within large enterprises.
