Software Development Team Lead — Complex Systems

Newcastle upon Tyne (5 days onsite)

Up to £180,000 + comprehensive benefits

We are hiring a Software Development Team Lead for a high-impact, senior role within an elite engineering consultancy delivering complex, mission-critical systems for a tier-one consulting partner.

This is a heavy-hitting position suited to technically exceptional engineers who can lead from the front, communicate with confidence, and take ownership of solving genuinely difficult problems in demanding environments.

Financial services experience is highly desirable, but not required. Technical depth, judgement, and communication matter more.

The role

• Lead and grow a team of high-calibre software engineers while remaining technically hands-on
• Take ownership of complex, end-to-end software delivery across mission-critical systems
• Engage directly with senior stakeholders, users, and subject-matter experts to shape pragmatic, high-quality solutions
• Partner closely with client teams in a collaborative, delivery-led environment
• Apply strong engineering judgement to challenge existing systems, processes, and assumptions
• Drive technical excellence while operating at pace and under ambiguity

What we’re looking for

• Extensive hands-on software engineering experience, with strong expertise in one or more of:
• C# / .NET, Java, Python or Rust
• Proven ability to operate across complex systems and large problem spaces
• Strong communication skills, with the confidence to engage senior technical and non-technical stakeholders
• A natural leader who takes ownership, runs towards problems, and sets the technical bar
• Passion for building high-quality systems in demanding, real-world environments
• Financial services experience is highly desirable, but not essential

Education requirement

• A strong academic background, with a degree from a Russell Group university or a globally recognised equivalent, demonstrating exceptional analytical capability
