Role Overview

A leading professional services firm is seeking a Senior Manager to join its supply chain and procurement practice, with a primary focus on the defence sector. This role centres on end-to-end supply chain transformation, procurement optimisation, and commercial effectiveness, addressing operational challenges in complex, engineering-heavy environments. You will lead strategic projects that enhance supply chain resilience, integrate planning with manufacturing and engineering functions, and drive efficiency in third-party spend across defence lifecycle timescales.

About the Organisation

This organisation is a major advisory firm renowned for delivering transformative solutions in defence and related sectors. It supports clients in overcoming fragmented supply chain structures, inefficient procurement, and poor supplier execution through integrated strategies and operational improvements. Operating across key UK hubs, the firm combines deep sector expertise with innovative approaches to foster long-term capability development.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver supply chain and procurement transformation projects, including strategy design, operating model implementation, organisation structures, processes, systems, and tools.
  • Develop and execute category strategies for indirect and direct categories across the source-to-contract lifecycle, encompassing planning, opportunity assessment, negotiation, supplier management, and contract oversight.
  • Conduct cost analyses to identify savings opportunities, implement cost management strategies, and provide expertise in estimation, control, and reduction within supply chains.
  • Analyse operational practices, identify improvement areas, and lead change management to streamline processes, increase efficiency, and adopt new technologies.
  • Guide digital transformation initiatives, from strategy to implementation, leveraging automation, data analytics, and advanced tools to enhance capabilities.
  • Build client relationships, lead project teams, manage timelines, ensure quality deliverables, and mentor junior staff in a collaborative environment.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate brings proven experience in defence supply chains, procurement, cost reduction, operations improvement, and digital transformation. You will have led multi-year transformations in supply chain strategy, integrated planning, and interfaces between procurement, manufacturing, and engineering, ideally in low-margin industries like pharma, aerospace, or heavy engineering. Strong analytical skills, negotiation prowess, stakeholder influence, and proficiency in ERP systems, data analytics, and source-to-pay solutions are essential. Comfort in ambiguous public sector settings and a track record of measurable cost savings complete the profile.
