About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Battery Test Automation Engineer to support the development and design verification of high-voltage (HV) traction battery systems. This role is centred around delivering and maintaining automation tools within advanced testing environments, both in-house and at external test sites.
As a Battery Test Automation Engineer, you’ll work closely with engineering teams, test operators, suppliers, and external agencies to ensure the seamless operation of battery test systems. Your responsibilities will include tool development, diagnostics, safety compliance, and future-proofing test capabilities to support innovation in battery technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and maintenance of battery test automation tools.
- Provide first-line diagnostics and resolve issues to minimise downtime.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate and optimise test tools.
- Deliver technical support and guidance to engineers and facility operators.
- Analyse test data, identify faults, and implement solutions to improve efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety protocols during test operations.
- Support planning for future automation requirements and system enhancements.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proficient in programming languages: CAPL, Python, and C++.
- Expertise in CAN, FlexRay, LIN, Ethernet protocols and tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer, INCA, VehicleSpy.
- Experience with data analysis and visualisation platforms: AVL Concerto, Tableau, Minitab.
- Strong knowledge of HEV/BEV powertrain systems and high-voltage battery technologies.
- Demonstrated experience in test facility operations, including system setup and control systems.
- Skilled in interpreting engineering documents, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Familiar with health and safety standards including Risk Assessment, COSHH, and SDS.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting.
Qualifications
- Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Full UK driving licence.
