The opportunity
We are supporting a confidential customer project delivering a private 5G deployment within a major UK manufacturing environment. The assignment requires an experienced IP and transport engineer to support enterprise network integration, transport validation, WAN/MPLS connectivity, VPN integration, security alignment and acceptance testing.
Key responsibilities
- Validate enterprise LAN integration, IP addressing, VLAN and VRF configuration.
- Verify routing implementation, including OSPF configuration and enterprise MPLS integration.
- Validate transport-path resiliency and support WAN connectivity troubleshooting.
- Validate firewall policies, IPSec VPN connectivity, network segmentation and QoS alignment.
- Execute throughput and latency testing and support fault-management and integration validation.
- Troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 connectivity, routing, firewall and VPN issues.
- Support end-to-end service validation, operational readiness and hypercare activities.
- Contribute to performance and capacity reviews and support timely issue resolution.
Essential experience
- At least five years of enterprise network engineering experience.
- Strong enterprise LAN/WAN experience across both IT and operational technology environments.
- Hands-on experience with VLAN, VRF and OSPF configuration and validation.
- Solid knowledge of MPLS networks and IP transport.
- Practical experience of IPSec VPNs and firewall integration.
- Strong Layer 2 and Layer 3 troubleshooting capability.
Desirable experience
- Experience within manufacturing or industrial network environments.
- Private 5G transport integration experience.
- Experience with Cisco, Arista or HPE switching technologies.
- Experience supporting formal acceptance testing and operational handover.
Key deliverables
- Enterprise LAN, routing and VPN integration successfully validated.
- Network acceptance testing completed, including throughput and latency checks.
- Transport connectivity and resiliency verified.
- Integration defects supported through resolution and operational acceptance.
Engagement details
- Initial 4-6 month contract, with potential for extension as the wider programme develops.
- Site-based delivery in Solihull within a manufacturing environment.
- Applicants should be able to demonstrate relevant hands-on delivery experience against the essential requirements.
