Job Title : Data Engineer with Azure Experience
Location : Newcastle/Sunderland, UK
About the Role
We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Engineer with hands-on experience in Azure cloud technologies to join our team in Newcastle/Sunderland. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines, integrating various data sources, and supporting the development of scalable data architectures. This is a great opportunity for an individual who is passionate about data engineering and keen to work with modern cloud solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines using Azure services, with a focus on Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Data Factory .
- Develop and optimize ETL processes leveraging Notebooks to ensure efficient data movement and transformation.
- Collaborate with data analysts and business intelligence teams to develop and maintain Power BI semantic models and reports .
- Integrate various data sources , including Oracle technologies , into Azure environments for seamless data access and analysis.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of Azure networking solutions to support data flows and connectivity.
- Ensure data pipelines are highly available, scalable, and secure by leveraging Azure best practices .
- Terraform knowledge is advantageous but not mandatory; willingness to learn and support Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) initiatives will be appreciated.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth delivery of data engineering projects.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in data engineering, data science or related degree with a 2:1 or above.
- 2-3 years of experience as Data Engineering ( REQUIRED ).
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer with a focus on Azure Cloud data Services (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, etc.)
- Database Skills (MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra or similar)
- Excellent SQL skills.
- Skills in developing data visualizations (e.g. Power BI)
- Strong programming skills, ideally in Python.
- Understanding of ETL pipeline development for data source integrations and data transformations.
- Understanding of data modelling to describe the data landscape, entities and relationships.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams effectively.
- Inquisitive with an eagerness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with additional Azure services like Azure Data Lake , Azure SQL Database , or Azure Databricks .
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices.
- Strong knowledge of data governance and security best practices in the cloud.
- Previous experience in a DevOps environment with CI/CD pipelines.
