Prinicpal Embedded Software Engineer
Hybrid Working, Car allowanceCoventry, England Permanent Our client is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join its engineering team, developing low-level embedded software for electrification applications including battery management, power conversion and electric vehicle control systems. This permanent role offers the opportunity to provide technical leadership while delivering robust software for high-integrity, real-time systems.Key Responsibilities:Lead the design, implementation and testing of embedded software platforms for real-time microcontroller systemsDevelop low-level and application-level software using C, C++ and assemblyDesign modular, scalable and reusable software components, including device drivers, communication stacks and hardware abstraction layersWork with CAN, LIN, SPI, I2C, UART and Ethernet communications, as well as middleware, bootloaders and firmware update mechanismsTranslate system-level requirements into software specifications and maintain architecture and design documentationPlan and execute unit, integration and system-level testing, using static and dynamic analysis tools to support software qualitySupport compliance with relevant standards, including MISRA-C, CERT C, ISO 26262 and ASPICECollaborate with electrical, mechanical, systems, validation and manufacturing teams to support hardware integration, debugging and successful project deliveryJob Requirements:Degree or equivalent qualification in software engineering, electronic engineering or a related disciplineSignificant experience in embedded software design, implementation, validation and debugging for hard real-time systemsAdvanced programming skills in embedded C and C++, with knowledge of assembly for microcontroller platformsExperience with software requirements, technical specifications, test documentation, version control and change managementUnderstanding of software development tools, CI/CD pipelines and configuration management, including platforms such as Bitbucket, Jenkins or GitLab CIKnowledge of CAN-based tools such as INCA, CANape or CANalyzer, together with experience of complex high- and low-voltage electrical systemsUnderstanding of functional safety, cyber security and industry standards for high-integrity control systemsExcellent problem-solving, analytical, communication and technical documentation skills, with a quality-focused and collaborative approachDesirable Experience:Experience developing high-integrity systems within the automotive, marine, energy storage or aerospace sectorsKnowledge of battery management systems and battery control applicationsExperience with AC/DC, DC/AC and DC/DC power conversion systems and their controlUnderstanding of Software FMEA, safety analysis and system-level engineering trade-offsBenefits:Permanent opportunity within a specialist engineering and electrification environmentFlexible working options, including hybrid workingExposure to innovative battery, power conversion and electric vehicle control projectsOpportunities for professional development and continuous learningCollaborative, multi-disciplinary working environmentIf you are an experienced Principal Embedded Software Engineer seeking a technically challenging role in electrification and high-integrity control systems, apply now.
