Innovation Lead / Consultant - AI Research

Active SC Clearance Required - FTC | Hybrid | Open for Consultant or Lead level

We are hiring an Innovation Lead / Consultant for an urgent FTC opportunity focused on AI research, technical due diligence, and emerging technology assessment.

This is not a generic innovation role. It is suited to someone who can bring real technical substance to AI, data, and automation-related work, assess the credibility of vendor propositions, and turn complex findings into clear, decision-ready outputs for senior stakeholders.

Active SC clearance is essential for this role. Applications without current SC clearance will not be considered.

The role

You will work on projects that require structured thinking, strong research discipline, and the ability to assess AI and technology solutions beyond surface-level claims.

Your work is likely to include:

• conducting research into AI, data, and automation systems
• assessing technical propositions, vendor claims, and emerging technology solutions
• reviewing model approaches, data flows, risks, limitations, and trade-offs
• producing high-quality written outputs and presentations for senior stakeholders
• helping shape evidence-based recommendations in complex and ambiguous environments

What we are looking for

We are looking for candidates who combine AI literacy, analytical rigour, and strong communication skills.

You may be a good fit if your background includes:

• AI research or technical evaluation
• AI due diligence or technology assessment
• emerging technology consulting
• data and AI strategy with strong research depth
• public sector, national security, or mission-led technology advisory

You should be able to demonstrate:

• strong understanding of AI, data, and automation systems
• the ability to interrogate vendor claims and assess technical robustness
• structured research and methodological thinking
• confidence working through ambiguity
• strong written and presentation capability
• the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and senior audiences

Essential requirement

• Active SC clearance

This is a strict requirement for the role.

Package

• Consultant: c. £50,000 - £60,000
• Lead: c. £65,000 - £80,000
• Day rate may also be considered depending on experience

Contract

• initial 2 to 3 month FTC
• high likelihood of extension
• longer-term potential for the right person

Location

Hybrid working with an ideal pattern of 2 to 3 days per week across Stratford, Cheltenham, or Manchester. Some flexibility may exist depending on profile and project need.
