Our client is an ambitious, growing technology-led organisation seeking an experienced Head of Technology to lead and develop its technology function.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will shape technology strategy, drive operational excellence and support the scaling of the organisation’s platforms and internal technology capabilities.

You will lead across engineering, architecture, platform operations, security, IT service delivery, AI and technology governance, ensuring systems, services and teams are secure, scalable, reliable and aligned with business priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver the technology strategy and roadmap
  • Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing technology team
  • Provide leadership across engineering, architecture, platform operations and IT service delivery
  • Embed best practices across development, automated testing, deployment and operational support
  • Lead and improve CI/CD tooling, deployment pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Own and evolve the architecture of core systems and platforms
  • Ensure platforms are secure, resilient, scalable and performant
  • Lead IT operations, including infrastructure, end-user computing, service management and enterprise systems
  • Drive operational excellence across incident, problem, release and change management
  • Oversee technology suppliers and third-party providers
  • Lead the implementation, certification and ongoing development of the ISO 27001 Information Security Management System
  • Embed ISO 27001 controls, policies and risk-management processes
  • Coordinate audits, remediation activity and certification readiness
  • Lead wider cybersecurity, risk and compliance improvements
  • Identify practical opportunities to use AI across products, services and internal operations
  • Establish governance for the responsible, secure and commercially effective use of AI
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies, suppliers and use cases
  • Improve engineering productivity through tooling, automation, AI and process optimisation
  • Partner with senior stakeholders to translate business objectives into technology solutions
  • Contribute to technology budgeting, planning and investment decisions

Technology Environment

The technology estate includes modern JavaScript and TypeScript applications, Ruby and Python services, and a serverless AWS platform.

The organisation places a strong emphasis on software quality, cloud-native architecture, automation, cybersecurity, observability and continuous delivery. It is also exploring how AI can enhance its products, customer experience, engineering practices and internal operations.

This role is less about expertise in one technology stack and more about leading a modern technology organisation while balancing engineering excellence, operational effectiveness, security, innovation and business outcomes.

You’ll Ideally Bring

  • Experience in a senior technology leadership role, such as Head of Technology, Head of Engineering, Engineering Director or Technical Director
  • Strong software architecture and system-design expertise
  • Experience building and scaling cloud-native applications and platforms
  • A track record of leading engineering teams within Agile environments
  • Experience overseeing IT operations and service delivery
  • Demonstrable experience leading an ISO 27001 implementation through to certification
  • Experience establishing or developing an Information Security Management System, including controls, risk assessments, audits and remediation
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity, technology governance, risk and compliance
  • Demonstrable experience improving CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation and continuous-delivery practices
  • Strong understanding of automated testing, DevOps and secure software development
  • Experience improving delivery performance, engineering quality and operational maturity
  • Experience evaluating, implementing or governing AI and machine-learning technologies
  • Understanding of AI-related security, privacy, ethical and governance considerations
  • Ability to identify AI use cases and translate them into measurable outcomes
  • Experience with AWS, serverless architecture and distributed systems
  • Strong stakeholder-management, communication and leadership skills
  • A pragmatic approach to balancing technical excellence, stability, security and commercial priorities

The organisation operates a flexible, remote-first culture, with regular opportunities to connect through team-building and social events across the South East.

The successful candidate should be comfortable travelling to the South Coast approximately once a month.
