Areti are delighted to be partnering with one of the UKs fastest-growing SaaS businesses in the search for a Principal Engineer with Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform, Pulumi) .

The Role

As a Principal Engineer , youll take a hands-on and strategic role within the engineering organisation, driving reliability, scalability, and performance across mission-critical systems.

Youll guide and mentor platform, SRE, and DevOps teams, ensuring operational excellence and robust automation practices throughout the organisation.

A central focus of this position will be Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) , building and scaling frameworks that support secure, automated, and repeatable environments. Youll bring strong experience in Terraform , and ideally Pulumi , to lead environment development and set the standards for best practices in infrastructure automation.

The development team primarily codes in Python , so an understanding of Python-based tooling and Pulumi would be particularly advantageous in helping to bridge development and operations effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of IaC solutions ( Terraform / Pulumi ).
• Drive the reliability, performance, and scalability of production systems.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Platform teams to deliver resilient cloud infrastructure.
• Mentor and develop engineers across SRE, Platform, and DevOps disciplines.
• Support and refine CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks.
• Play a key role in scaling engineering operations and evolving internal toolsets.

Key Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in Site Reliability Engineering or Principal DevOps roles.
• Strong Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) expertise using Terraform and (ideally) Pulumi .
• Proficiency in Python or familiarity with Python-based DevOps tooling and automation frameworks.
• Experience leading, mentoring, and scaling technical teams within fast-growing environments.
• Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloud-native architectures.
• Passion for automation , observability , and driving engineering excellence across teams.
• Skilled in writing clear, maintainable technical documentation to standardize practices and improve knowledge sharing.
• Experienced in designing and delivering internal training sessions, workshops, or onboarding programs to upskill engineering teams.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
