We're working with a high-growth, Series A-funded SaaS organisation that is scaling rapidly and investing heavily in its engineering function.

As part of this growth, we're hiring a Tech Lead to lead the evolution of a large-scale API platform as the business continues its migration from legacy applications to a modern API-first architecture.

This is a true technical leadership position, combining hands-on engineering with architecture ownership, mentoring, and strategic decision-making.

The Role

You'll be responsible for the technical direction, quality, and scalability of the API Platform Team, helping to build and evolve services that support multiple products across the organisation.

The role offers approximately 70% hands-on development and 30% leadership, making it ideal for someone who enjoys coding while leading engineers and driving technical decisions.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading the API Platform technical roadmap
• Building and maintaining backend services using PHP (Symfony) and Golang
• Driving migration from legacy systems to modern API-first architecture
• Defining API standards, versioning, security, and documentation
• Making architectural decisions focused on scalability, resilience, and performance
• Mentoring and line managing engineers
• Working closely with Product and QA teams to deliver high-quality solutions
• Promoting engineering best practices through code reviews, testing, and automation

What We're Looking For

Essential

✔ Strong commercial experience with PHP (Symfony)

✔ Experience building and maintaining API-driven backend systems

✔ Experience working with Golang in production environments

✔ Previous experience as a Tech Lead, Lead Engineer, or Senior Software Engineer

✔ Strong understanding of object-oriented design and scalable architecture

✔ Experience leading technical decisions and mentoring engineers

✔ Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

Highly Desirable

✔ Legacy modernisation and migration experience

✔ Kubernetes and cloud-native environments

✔ High-throughput or data-intensive platforms

✔ Experience working in regulated industries
