Location: Hybrid, 40% onsite in Newcastle, Manchester or Birmingham

Rate: Up to £300 per day, Inside IR35

Security Clearance: Active SC Clearance is essential

We're recruiting for experienced Data Business Analysts to join a high-profile government transformation programme focused on delivering trusted, accessible and well-governed data products and services.

Working within Agile Data Platform teams, you'll collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to define, prioritise and manage requirements that support the delivery of modern data platforms. You'll play a key role in improving data quality, accessibility and governance, enabling better decision-making across the organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on large-scale, meaningful digital transformation programmes where your work will directly contribute to the delivery of the organisation's Data Strategy.

The Role

As a Data Business Analyst, you will:

  • Work with business and technical stakeholders to understand, capture and prioritise business requirements.
  • Support discovery activities to identify user needs and opportunities for improvement.
  • Define and manage requirements for data platforms and enabling services.
  • Analyse data processes and data flows to support platform design and modernisation.
  • Produce high-quality user stories, acceptance criteria and supporting documentation.
  • Facilitate workshops, backlog refinement sessions and Three Amigos discussions.
  • Work closely with Product Owners, Architects, Data Engineers and delivery teams throughout the Agile delivery lifecycle.
  • Contribute to data governance activities, including data lineage, data quality and data dictionary development.
  • Ensure solutions align with organisational policy, security and governance standards.
  • Help measure and improve data accessibility, usability and overall business outcomes.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience working within a UK Government department or wider public sector organisation.
  • Proven experience as a Business Analyst delivering data-focused projects.
  • Strong stakeholder management and requirements elicitation skills.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery teams.
  • Experience writing user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Experience facilitating workshops, backlog refinement sessions and Three Amigos discussions.
  • Good understanding of data governance principles.
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
  • Data lineage
  • Data quality
  • Data dictionaries
  • Data processes and data flows
  • Strong analytical, communication and documentation skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience supporting Data Platform or Data Engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of modern cloud-based data platforms.
  • Experience contributing to data strategy, data modernisation or self-service data initiatives
