Cyber Security Engineer
Location:Manchester City Centre Hybrid working
Salary: up to £50,000

We're recruiting for a Cyber Security Engineer to join an established organisation and help deliver improvements across its IT environment.
This is a hands-on role with a strong Microsoft security focus. You'll implement and configure security controls, investigate threats and take technical projects through testing, implementation and handover. There's scope to contribute your ideas and help shape how the organisation protects its systems, devices and users.

The role
Working alongside the Cyber Security Operations Manager and wider IT teams, you'll:
  • Configure, maintain and improve security tools including Microsoft Defender, Intune, Entra ID and Microsoft 365 security capabilities.
  • Deliver technical security projects, ensuring changes are tested, documented and handed over into day-to-day support.
  • Identify vulnerabilities and configuration weaknesses, working with IT colleagues to prioritise and implement fixes.
  • Investigate security alerts and support incident containment, remediation and evidence gathering.
  • Strengthen security across devices, user identities, applications and infrastructure.
  • Improve monitoring and automate repeatable tasks where possible.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and provide advice to colleagues and project teams.
  • Support work relating to Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus and CIS Controls.

About you
You'll have practical experience configuring and improving Microsoft security controls, alongside a sound understanding of security operations and vulnerability remediation.
We're particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
  • Hands-on Microsoft 365 security experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Defender, including endpoint protection, alert investigation or improving device security.
  • Experience with Intune and Entra ID, ideally implementing device and identity security controls.
  • The ability to investigate technical issues, identify root causes and deliver practical improvements.
  • Experience assessing vulnerabilities, prioritising remediation and tracking issues through to resolution.
  • Confidence supporting colleagues with more complex security issues.
  • Clear communication and the ability to balance project work with operational priorities.

Relevant certifications such as Microsoft security qualifications, CompTIA Security+, CISSP or SSCP would be welcome, but equivalent practical experience is equally valued.
