Senior Business Analyst
An exciting opportunity for you to join a leading London Market underwriter within a well-established, high-performing change and transformation function as a Senior Data Business Analyst.
As the Senior Data Business Analyst, you’ll have the artistic freedom to define and shape how data projects are delivered from a Business Analysis perspective, setting the standards, approach, and best practices for the function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the initiation, discovery, and delivery of multiple data and BI projects across the change portfolio, ensuring scope, timelines, and governance standards are met within a mature change function.
- Serve as the first dedicated Senior Data Business Analyst, establishing standards, templates, and best practices for data-focused analysis, and shaping the approach to data project delivery.
- Own stakeholder engagement across business, change, and data teams, confidently leading workshops and meetings, adapting style to different audiences, and supporting both large strategic initiatives and smaller change tickets.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering, Data Architecture, and BI teams (Azure, SQL, Power BI) to define detailed requirements for data warehouses, lakes, pipelines, and reporting solutions.
- Translate spreadsheets and manual reporting into structured data models and warehousing requirements, producing artefacts such as conceptual/logical data models, process diagrams (Visio), data flows, and detailed Power BI specifications.
- Demonstrate expertise in data concepts, including lineage, dictionaries vs. glossaries, data quality, governance, and warehousing principles, engaging confidently in technical discussions without coding.
- Operate as a hands-on BA on projects (approximately 50% data-related), while elevating the capability of the permanent BA team in data analysis practices.
- Support embedding project deliverables into business-as-usual operations, ensuring sustainable reporting and data processes.
An opportunity for you to contribute to the growth and structure of the BA function (mix of permanent and contractors), with potential for line management responsibilities as the team evolves.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Proven experience as a Data Business Analyst or Senior BA, leading data and BI projects in a complex, data-driven environment, preferably within the insurance industry.
- Hands-on experience with data warehouses, data lakes, and reporting pipelines, including translating manual/spreadsheet reporting into structured data solutions.
- Strong knowledge of BI and data technologies (SQL, Power BI, Azure stack) and relational database/reporting architectures.
- Confident in engaging and influencing stakeholders across business, change, and data teams; able to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Experienced in producing clear visual artefacts (conceptual and logical data models, process diagrams, data flows, wireframes, report specifications) to support analysis and delivery.
- Familiarity with data concepts such as data lineage, data dictionaries vs. glossaries, data quality, governance, and warehousing principles.
- Comfortable working across multiple projects simultaneously, adapting to different teams, priorities, and project sizes.
Hybrid working model: 2 days in the London office.
