Job description - the role

AMS is the world's leading provider of Talent Acquisition and Management Services. Our contingent Workforce Solutions (CWS) service acts as an extension of our clients' recruitment team and provides professional interim and temporary resources. We partner with Arup to support contingent recruitment processes. On behalf of Arup, we are looking for a PMO Data & Insights Analyst for a 6 months contract based in Cardiff.

The Role:

We are seeking a highly analytical and technically skilled PMO Data & Insights Analyst to be part of the delivery team within the Portfolio Office of the Energy, Water and Resources Group (EWR). The delivery team is engaged in multiple water frameworks, helping our UK clients solve the most pressing challenges across the water cycle.

The PMO Analyst will work a with a wide variety of stakeholders as part of our framework teams to lead, facilitate and support our portfolio, programme and project demand and delivery approach to maximise value, effectiveness and agility.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on working with complex datasets, enjoys building automated reporting solutions, and understands the nuances of engineering project delivery.

You will play a pivotal role in transforming raw project data into meaningful insights by leveraging tools such as Power Query, Power BI, and advanced Excel. Your work will directly support project governance, applications for payment, project forecasts, performance tracking, and strategic decision-making across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and design projects.

The role reports to the Framework Director.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining automated dataflows using Power Query to extract, transform, and merge data from multiple internal sources (e.g., project controls systems, timesheets, finance tools).
  • Designing and optimising Excel-based tools using advanced formulas to support monthly analysis and reporting needs.
  • Leading and being responsible for timely and accurate monthly applications for payment and project forecasts in accordance with Client requirements and Arup governance processes
  • Developing and managing Power BI reports and dashboards within shared workspaces, ensuring real-time visibility into project performance, resource utilization, and financial metrics.
  • Collaborating with engineering, commercial, and delivery teams to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and alignment with project milestones and KPIs.
  • Supporting project governance by preparing high-quality reports for internal and client-facing reviews.
  • Continuously improving data processes, identifying opportunities for automation, standardization, and enhanced data quality.

What We're Looking For:

  • Expertise in Power Query for data transformation and integration across multiple sources.
  • Proficiency in Power BI, including workspace management, DAX, and data modelling.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data validation techniques.
  • Experience working with project data in an engineering or technical consultancy environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to spot inconsistencies and drive data integrity.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Prior experience in a finance, accounting, or operations environment is a plus.
