Sample Taker Admin and CSPL admin support

Job summary

The Berkshire & Surrey Pathology Services Cytology department based at St Peter's Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic member of staff to join our Cytology admin team.

The successful candidate will:

Work in the sample taker admin/ failsafe office located in the Pathology suite at St Peter's Hospital.

Be a key part of the team supporting our HPV primary testing service that delivers cervical screening across the South East and South Central screening regions.

Be used to working in a busy environment and meeting clearly defined time sensitive targets.

Previous experience of working in a Pathology admin or other NHS post would be advantageous although not essential as full training will be given.

Main duties of the job

Be responsible for keeping accurate sample taker records and assist the CSPL with secretarial support.

Troubleshooting sample taker codes by liaising with GP practices and hospital units.

Perform routine office/reception duties as required in the Cytology department.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be:

Verifying sample takers codes by contacting GPs via telephone and emails.

Liaising with the CSU to update sample taker records on the central sample taker database

Maintaining a list of qualified, practicing sample takers which is available for reporting to commissioners and DMS

Providing administrative support to SIAF incident investigations.

Populating letters and distributing via post or email as per the request of the CSPL/Deputy CSPL.

Carrying out duties within the Cytology department as and when required by the laboratory manager or CSPL.

Qualifications and Further Training

Essential
  • oEnglish NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience in an administrative/secretarial role
Desirable
  • Qualifications in I.T systems including Microsoft packages.

  • Previous experience in NHS environment answering telephone enquiries

  • Use of BS LIMS e.g. Winpath Enterprise to include accessing patient results and data entry
  • Experience of laboratory and NHSCSP databases including progress chasing for database updates.

  • Written and verbal communication skills including a clear concise and polite telephone manner
  • Ability to organise diaries to cover meetings and ability to work to deadlines
