ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT FUNCTION:
Mining IQ delivers exclusive data, analysis and expert insights through research reports and a growing suite of data tools covering key industry themes, including projects, investment risk, ESG, leadership and investor sentiment.
YOUR ROLE:
Your role as a Data Analyst is key in supporting the development of our industry intelligence products, under the Mining IQ umbrella. You will be responsible for transforming complex datasets into clear, accurate and engaging insights that support editorial, subscription and intelligence products. A key part of the role will involve writing analytical commentary and structured insights for research reports and helping translate data into compelling narratives for industry audiences.
You will work closely with editors, data editor and content teams to ensure data is accurate, well-structured and effectively used across products and platforms. This role sits within the wider intelligence function within the content team.
Your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Supporting development, maintenance and improvement of structured datasets used across Mining IQ and other intelligence products
- Performing quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify trends, patterns and insights
- Producing clear, structured written analysis for research reports and intelligence outputs
- Supporting the design and maintenance of benchmarking and ranking systems
- Working with editorial and product teams to integrate data into content and storytelling
- Creating charts, tables and visual outputs to support editorial and subscriber-facing materials
- Ensuring data accuracy, consistency and integrity across all datasets
- Contributing to audience engagement initiatives through data-driven insights and content support
- Supporting distribution and promotion of intelligence outputs across internal channels
This role reports directly to the Editor, Mining IQ
ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL HAVE TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE:
- Experience in a data analyst, research analyst or similar role involving structured data work
- Strong ability to analyse datasets and translate findings into clear written insight
- Excellent in-depth knowledge of Excel and other data processing programmes
- Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets, qualitative and quantitative research
- Strong written communication skills, with ability to produce concise analytical commentary
- Experience in report writing, research writing or data-led editorial content
- High attention to detail and strong data accuracy standards
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high-quality work under time constraints
- Strong collaboration skills across editorial, product and commercial teams
- Interest in mining, energy or natural resources sectors (beneficial but not essential)
- Excellent organisational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously whilst ensuring standards and deadlines are met.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication and collaboration skills to partner effectively with cross-functional teams
