Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Contract Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Location: Mon-Thurs in Leicester HQ (Friday wfh) | Contract: 3 months | Rate: £300/day, Inside IR35
Our client, a well-established organisation undergoing an Azure transformation, is looking for a Contract Senior Infrastructure Engineer to provide hands-on support during a critical migration phase. This is a senior, technical role for someone who has genuinely done Azure migrations before, not just administered an existing environment.
Role Summary
You'll play an active part in assessing on-premises workloads and planning, testing and supporting their migration into Azure or SaaS, alongside maintaining the current infrastructure estate. You'll act as a senior technical escalation point, support junior colleagues, and ensure documentation and handovers are done properly.
Key Responsibilities
- Support hands-on Azure migration activity: landing zones, subscriptions, resource groups, VNets, subnets, NSGs, hybrid connectivity and Azure VMs
- Assess on-premises workloads and plan, test and support their migration into Azure or SaaS
- Maintain and support the Windows Server estate, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP
- Support VMware or Hyper-V virtualisation and core networking infrastructure
- Administer Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune and endpoint management
- Apply infrastructure and cloud security controls in day-to-day work
- Provide senior technical escalation for complex incidents and operational issues
- Coach and support junior colleagues, producing clear documentation and handovers
- Work within a small IT team, following an agreed technical direction
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong, hands-on Azure infrastructure experience, including direct involvement in production migrations
- Practical knowledge of Azure landing zones, subscriptions, resource groups, VNets, subnets, NSGs, hybrid connectivity and Azure VMs
- Experience assessing on-premises workloads and planning, testing and supporting migration into Azure or SaaS
- Strong Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, VMware or Hyper-V and networking experience
- Good Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune and endpoint-management knowledge
- Practical understanding of infrastructure and cloud security controls
- Able to provide senior technical escalation, coach junior colleagues and produce clear documentation and handovers
- Comfortable working as part of a small team and following an agreed technical direction

Working Hours
Monday to Thursday on site with Friday wfh. Occasional out-of-hours work may be required during major incidents, deployments or critical upgrades.
