Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Our client, a well-established organisation undergoing an Azure transformation, is looking for a Contract Senior Infrastructure Engineer to provide hands-on support during a critical migration phase. This is a senior, technical role for someone who has genuinely done Azure migrations before, not just administered an existing environment.

Role Summary

You'll play an active part in assessing on-premises workloads and planning, testing and supporting their migration into Azure or SaaS, alongside maintaining the current infrastructure estate. You'll act as a senior technical escalation point, support junior colleagues, and ensure documentation and handovers are done properly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support hands-on Azure migration activity: landing zones, subscriptions, resource groups, VNets, subnets, NSGs, hybrid connectivity and Azure VMs
  • Assess on-premises workloads and plan, test and support their migration into Azure or SaaS
  • Maintain and support the Windows Server estate, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP
  • Support VMware or Hyper-V virtualisation and core networking infrastructure
  • Administer Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune and endpoint management
  • Apply infrastructure and cloud security controls in day-to-day work
  • Provide senior technical escalation for complex incidents and operational issues
  • Coach and support junior colleagues, producing clear documentation and handovers
  • Work within a small IT team, following an agreed technical direction

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong, hands-on Azure infrastructure experience, including direct involvement in production migrations
  • Practical knowledge of Azure landing zones, subscriptions, resource groups, VNets, subnets, NSGs, hybrid connectivity and Azure VMs
  • Experience assessing on-premises workloads and planning, testing and supporting migration into Azure or SaaS
  • Strong Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, VMware or Hyper-V and networking experience
  • Good Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune and endpoint-management knowledge
  • Practical understanding of infrastructure and cloud security controls
  • Able to provide senior technical escalation, coach junior colleagues and produce clear documentation and handovers
  • Comfortable working as part of a small team and following an agreed technical direction

Desirable Skills

  • Business Central SaaS
  • Nessus Tenable
  • Azure DevOps
  • PowerShell scripting and automation
  • Terraform or Infrastructure as Code
  • SQL and data platform knowledge
  • Meraki networking

Working Hours

Monday to Thursday on site with Friday wfh. Occasional out-of-hours work may be required during major incidents, deployments or critical upgrades.

This is a genuinely hands-on role for someone who wants to be doing the migration work, not just planning it. Apply now or get in touch for a confidential conversation.
