Solutions Architect
Role Summary
Aubay UK is seeking a Solution Architect for a leading global Oil & Gas client. This role focuses on delivering high-quality solution architecture, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and driving technology optimisation across projects. The candidate is required to be in the Waterloo office 2-3 days a week, with the remaining days working remotely.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Act primarily as an individual contributor, with potential responsibility for mentoring or leading a small team.
- Deliver solution architecture design, consultancy, and assurance across projects, ensuring compliance with enterprise standards and reference architectures.
- Translate architectural guidelines into practical implementations and resolve complex technical challenges.
- Provide technical recommendations that improve business performance and drive innovation.
- Identify and implement opportunities to optimise IT systems and introduce new technologies.
- Contribute to the training and development of other team members.
- Act as a subject matter expert with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and external partners when required.
- Make solution decisions within established governance frameworks.
- Apply architecture standards and manage exceptions where necessary.
- Use standard tools for architecture artefacts (e.g., System Architect, PowerDesigner, ProVision) and promote reuse.
- Build and manage relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Align solutions with the organisation’s IT strategic roadmap, including domains such as Cloud, Integration, Mobile, Open Source, and Data.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a Solution Architect / Enterprise Architect within complex IT environments.
- Strong understanding of architecture frameworks and methodologies (e.g., TOGAF or equivalent).
- Experience designing and delivering solutions across domains such as Cloud, Integration, Data, and Applications.
- Solid experience with architecture modelling tools (e.g., System Architect, PowerDesigner, ProVision or similar).
- Ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Strong knowledge of IT governance, standards, and architectural best practices.
- Demonstrated experience working with senior stakeholders and influencing decisions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex technical challenges.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, with experience producing architecture artefacts.
- Experience working in large-scale, global or enterprise environments.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience within the Oil & Gas, Energy, or similar asset-heavy industries.
- Familiarity with modern architecture trends (e.g., microservices, API-led design, event-driven architecture).
- Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of data architecture, big data platforms, and analytics solutions.
- Experience working in Agile / hybrid delivery environments.
- Previous experience acting as a subject matter expert or mentoring junior team members.
- Strong awareness of security, risk, and compliance considerations in solution design.
