Network Engineer
Role: Network Engineer
Skills: CCIE-level routing/switching, Linux, Scripting, DevOps, Kubernetes
Salary: £500k+
Location: London
The ideal candidate comes from a top-tier tech environment (FAANG, elite trading, or hyperscale infrastructure). They have experience building networks from 0→1 and are comfortable operating across everything from bare‐metal Linux to modern build, observability, and automation stacks. This role sits at the intersection of advanced networking, large‐scale ML/AI platforms, and high‐end automation.
Network Engineer – Overview
This elite trading firm is seeking a Network Engineer to join a small, high‐impact engineering group supporting ML/AI‐driven trading and research. You will work closely with teams running massive simulation, HPC, and network production workloads that depend on ultra‐reliable, ultra‐fast network platforms. You will own critical network infrastructure at scale and help shape the next generation of compute systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full life cycle of network engineering: design, implementation, and ongoing operations for latency‐sensitive and throughput‐heavy environments.
- Support large, distributed networks with expert knowledge of routing, switching, and multicast concepts, ensuring predictable performance under extreme load.
- Build and evolve network monitoring, alerting, and observability, integrating telemetry into operational and analytical data stores to support ML/AI and systematic strategies.
- Manage and optimise Kubernetes cluster networking and container orchestration, partnering with platform and ML infrastructure teams.
- Work extensively on the Linux command line, contributing to automation, tooling, and production‐grade reliability across bare‐metal and virtualised estates.
- Collaborate with DevOps and SRE functions to drive infrastructure‐as‐code, repeatable deployments, and highly automated change management.
What You Will Work On
- Low‐latency network paths supporting execution, research, and large‐scale ML/AI training and inference.
- In‐house proprietary platforms spanning fibre and microwave networks, dense data centre fabrics, and high‐performance interconnects.
- Platform, configuration, and code contributions that directly improve end‐to‐end latency, throughput, and reliability for critical trading and ML workloads.
- Automation frameworks that reduce operational toil, increase determinism, and provide deep, real‐time visibility into network and system behaviour.
Team Environment
- Small, highly skilled networks and systems engineering team with broad autonomy and a mandate to move quickly.
- Close collaboration with quants, researchers, ML engineers, and traders to co‐design infrastructure around real performance needs.
- A culture centred on ownership, deep problem‐solving, and performance engineering, where data‐driven decisions and high‐quality automation are the default.
