What You'll Be Doing

  • Developing high-quality embedded C software for medical devices
  • Designing and implementing new software features and enhancements
  • Creating and maintaining low-level firmware for MCU peripherals including UART, SPI and I2C
  • Supporting prototype hardware bring-up and debugging
  • Performing software verification using unit testing frameworks
  • Working closely with Systems Engineers and Software Test teams
  • Investigating defects and carrying out root cause analysis
  • Contributing to Agile ceremonies and continuous improvement initiatives

What We're Looking For

  • Commercial experience developing Embedded C software
  • Experience working with 16/32-bit microcontrollers
  • Knowledge of RTOS and multi-threaded embedded systems
  • Experience with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART and TCP/IP
  • Understanding of bootloaders, interrupt handling and peripheral programming
  • Experience using Git and Jira
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach

Desirable Experience

  • Medical devices or other regulated industries
  • IEC 62304 or similar quality standards
  • MISRA coding guidelines
  • Unit testing frameworks such as Unity, Ceedling or CMock
  • Embedded GUI development
  • Python or C# for tooling and automation

The Person

We're looking for engineers who enjoy writing high-quality code and delivering software as part of a collaborative team. You'll be someone who takes ownership of your work, communicates well with colleagues and enjoys solving technical challenges. Medical device experience is welcomed but not essential, as attitude, engineering ability and a willingness to learn are equally important.

  • Inside IR35
  • Hybrid working with approximately 60% on-site in Central Scotland
  • Opportunity to work on technology that improves patient outcomes worldwide
  • Long-term programme with an experienced engineering team
