Infrastructure Engineer – On-Prem & Cloud (Azure)
Location: Milton Keynes (on-site role)
A leading national technology and distribution group is seeking a reliable, hands-on Infrastructure Engineer to manage and improve secure, high-availability systems across on-premise and Azure cloud environments.
Based primarily at the company’s Milton Keynes HQ, this is a delivery-focused role where ownership, consistency, and a collaborative attitude are valued just as highly as technical skill.
About the Role
You'll be part of a lean, supportive infrastructure team responsible for the day-to-day stability, security, and resilience of the group’s hybrid IT estate. The focus is on well-documented, repeatable processes, strong operational support, and proactive risk management.
You’ll also work closely with internal stakeholders on infrastructure initiatives and business-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support hybrid infrastructure across on-premise and Azure environments
 - Maintain servers, storage (SAN/NAS), firewalls, and networking infrastructure
 - Oversee patching, backups, disaster recovery plans, and system documentation
 - Respond to incidents quickly and methodically to reduce technical risk
 - Contribute to infrastructure upgrades and new deployments across sites
 - Collaborate within Agile-style workflows, including sprint planning and retrospectives
 
What We’re Looking For
- Solid background in Microsoft infrastructure, Azure, and virtualisation (VMware or Hyper-V)
 - Comfortable troubleshooting issues across networking, storage, and firewalls
 - Familiar with cybersecurity best practices, including endpoint protection
 - Well-organised, documentation-focused, and comfortable working in a structured, process-driven environment
 - Happy to be on-site full-time in Milton Keynes, with occasional travel to Birmingham
 
Desirable Experience
- Palo Alto or Fortinet firewalls
 - SAN/NAS provisioning and tuning (e.g. Dell, HPE)
 - LogicMonitor or similar infrastructure monitoring tools
 - Working knowledge of Agile within an IT operations team
