Role Summary

The purpose of the MI/BI & Insight Manager is to effectively lead and co-ordinate a team of MI Analysts, Data Analysts and BI Developers to generate, analyse and present information for key operational and business activities in order to deliver insightful analysis and reporting to support Business Managers. And may also supervise other support staff members, along with serving as the liaison for external contractors or service providers.

Role Accountabilities

  • Responsible for owning the MI, BI and Analytics relationship and working closely with operational leaders to ensure all reporting meets the business requirements.
  • Importantly, this role must ensure that these functions are carried out in line with controlled policies, procedures, legislative and regulatory requirements, while providing exceptional internal customer service and driving business growth.
  • Play a key role in the development of the roadmap for the data platform and reporting solutions.
  • Act as key curator of data within the team, being responsible for the processes of collection, governance, storage, security and accessibility of all our data, from raw data through to transformed business-facing data.
  • Responsible for creating an MI and BI Framework that will be followed by the team to ensure a common way of working and avoid data quality issues.
  • Responsible for the comprehensive efforts related to the design, implementation, and operation of BI data analysis systems. Take a lead role in driving the BI strategy and ensuring the department meets organisational goals. May also perform BI analyst tasks in addition to their supervisory duties.
  • Responsible for BI/MI lifecycle management, which is the design, development and management approach to BI that incorporates business users into the design process and focuses on generating the data models, database objects, data integration mappings and front-end semantic layers directly from the business user input
  • Overall responsibility for management, prioritisation, and delivery of data-driven initiatives within the organisation.
  • Recognise and assist in delivering the broader business benefits which result from continuous incremental improvements through business change initiatives and small enhancements.
  • Optimise the use of commercial and enterprise data within the organisation (Products / Sales / Transactional / Financial / Claims).
  • Ensure that data is well-structured and of sufficient quality so that it can be leveraged to provide meaningful insights
  • Help to define a data and analytics strategy which makes optimal use of business data according to industry best practice
  • Utilise knowledge of insurance industry processes combined with the effective use of data to aid decision making (Policies / Underwriting / Claims Handling / Bordereaux).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation to understand their data requirements (wants and needs), identify applicable data sources and solutions, and ensure data quality and integrity
  • Facilitate the generation of Dashboards, Reporting Packs and other visualisations for summarising key business information to senior management (KPIs, metrics, patterns, trends, etc.).
  • Keen to showcase and keep up to date with developments in enterprise BI tools, especially Microsoft Power BI
  • People management and motivation experience. Specifically, with data management and analysis would be advantageous.
  • Maintaining productive working relationships with all functions within the business

Operations

  • Implementation of policies and procedures, as well as documentation and governance
  • Create a Centre of Excellence for Insight and analysis for the whole Aventum Group
  • Identify data quality issues and support the data governance initiative by developing an exceptional reports
  • Model business logic, extract key performance metrics, and create reusable data structures.
  • Maintain data so that it remains available and usable,e.g. SQL (Basic, Advanced modelling, Efficient, Big Data and Programmatic)
  • Support Data munging such as reshaping, aggregating, joining disparate sources, small-scale ETL, API interaction, and automation, e.g. Python
  • Support the data normalisation and modelling as part of the transform step of ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Dive deep to create trustworthy and understandable data for our DA to create insights on how well Aventum is taking care of the customer as it relates to customer experience and satisfaction, and more

Role Requirements

  • Degree-level education in the relevant subject (e.g. finance, maths, physics, etc.)
  • Other beneficial qualifications (e.g. MBA, CFA, etc.)
  • Proficient in Structured Query Language (SQL), Critical Thinking, R or Python-Statistical Programming, Data Visualisation, Presentation Skills, Machine Learning & Data Science techniques, Econometrics
  • Strong Data Mapping skills, knowledge of Data Warehousing Concepts, and Logical Modelling Skills.
  • Strong Business Analyst skills, including process mapping, requirements gathering,and stakeholder management
  • Previous experience and good understanding of Azure data tools
  • Proficient in Power BI
  • Proven ability to motivate and influence small and/or large technical teams
  • Experience of working to defined strategies and goals, taking ownership of the strategy
  • Project Management and experience with software development methodologies such as Agile
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills – Excel (data manipulation, lookups, pivot tables, macros) and PowerPoint (Clear, concise, well-formatted reporting).
  • Managerial and communication skills - ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical audiences
  • Business-focused and able to establish and maintain stakeholder relationships
  • Problem solving
  • Understanding of project management, change management and systems processes
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to influence others
