Hardware Technician

Overview

We are looking for an organised, reliable, and process-driven individual to join our IT Hardware Operations team in Norwich. This team is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of IT hardware across Aviva, including provisioning equipment for new starters, managing returns from leavers, and refurbishing or disposing of hardware in line with strict data-security controls.

As Aviva integrates Direct Line Group into our operations, the volume of work within hardware management is increasing—making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on, operational work in a structured environment.

Key Responsibilities

Hardware Provisioning

  • Process and fulfil IT hardware requests for new starters, including laptops, desktops, monitors, and peripherals (keyboards, mice, etc.).
  • Prepare, configure, package, and ship equipment to Aviva sites or directly to remote workers.
  • Maintain accurate records of hardware issued and returned.

Leaver Hardware Management

  • Coordinate the return of IT equipment from leavers.
  • Check, wipe, clean, and assess returned devices.
  • Determine whether hardware should be reused, refurbished, resold, or securely disposed of.

Inventory & Stock Control

  • Maintain stock levels across the hardware estate.
  • Track incoming and outgoing equipment.
  • Organise storage areas to operate like a small distribution centre.

Compliance & Data Security

  • Follow strict processes for handling devices containing company data.
  • Work with approved third-party partners for certified data wiping, reselling, and disposal.
  • Ensure all documentation and certificates (e.g., destruction certificates) are accurate and recorded.

Operational Support for Integration Work

  • Support additional workload relating to onboarding Direct Line staff onto Aviva systems.
  • Assist with transitions from third-party hardware suppliers to Aviva’s internal process.

General Team Support

  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure coverage between 8:00–17:00.
  • Provide excellent service to internal stakeholders.
  • Follow established procedures while contributing ideas for continuous improvement.

Skills & Experience

Required

  • Ability to follow structured processes accurately and consistently.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn new systems, tools, and procedures.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Comfortable with physical aspects of the role (packing, handling IT equipment).
  • Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach.

Nice to Have (but not essential)

  • Experience in:
  • Distribution centres
  • Warehousing or stock control
  • Logistics or fulfilment
  • Operational support roles
  • Familiarity with IT hardware (desktops, laptops, peripherals).

Who Will Succeed in This Role

You’ll thrive if you’re:

  • Practical and hands-on
  • A dependable team player
  • Comfortable with routine operational tasks
  • Process-orientated
  • Eager to learn and adapt

This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys structured work, likes keeping things organised, and feels satisfaction in ensuring hardware is tracked, processed, and delivered correctly.
