We’re looking for a talented Software Engineer (Laravel PHP) to join our growing team and build technology solutions that make a real difference. The ideal person will have a strong understanding of Laravel PHP, CSS, HTML5 and GIT, and be comfortable working with various frameworks, including React and Vue.

What you’ll be doing

  • Craft top-notch, scalable, secure software services and platforms , using an event-driven microservices architecture.
  • Develop clean, efficient, and maintainable web applications using Laravel
  • Write modular, reusable code following industry best practices
  • Maintain server-side logic to support front-end functionality and ensure seamless application performance
  • Work with backend technologies and protocols (e.g. RESTful APIs, queues)
  • Handle complex workflows and business logic to meet application requirements
  • Design and optimise database schemas to ensure data integrity and efficient relationships
  • Utilise caching strategies (e.g. Redis, Memcached) for performance enhancement
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to monitor and improve system performance
  • Write comprehensive test cases for edge and performance scenarios
  • Debug production and development issues with stakeholders
  • Integrate external APIs and services securely and efficiently
  • Design and implement internal APIs for microservices and front-end applications
  • Collaborate with Machine Learning Engineers , Front-End Developers, UI/UX Designers and Product Managers
  • Participate in sprint planning , standups and retrospectives
  • Share knowledge with junior engineers and onboard new team members
  • Maintain detailed documentation for codebase, architecture and design decisions
  • Document APIs, endpoints and database structures for seamless integration
  • Write deployment procedures and troubleshooting guides for operations teams

Note: this role requires you to work from our Eastbourne (UK) office Tuesday-Thursday every week (Mondays and Fridays can be remote).

What you’ll bring

Required:

  • Proficiency in PHP with extensive experience in Laravel
  • Solid understanding of database design and management (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc)
  • Experience with event-driven microservices architecture
  • Familiarity with Git and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong problem-solving skills and debugging expertise
  • Experience in building and consuming APIs (RESTful, JSON)
  • Knowledge of testing methodologies (PHPUnit, Pest, etc)
  • Basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred but not required:

  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and Linux
  • Familiarity with additional languages such as TypeScript, Python, and Rust
