Salary: Up to £67,000 (depending on skills and experience)

What you'll be doing:
  • Undertaking Electromagnetic analysis on Naval platforms and products for both Topside and Below Decks equipment installation
  • Definition of platform specific Electromagnetic design rules
  • Analysis and mitigation of any potential non conformities
  • Carrying out Electromagnetic measurements on platform (RADHAZ) or products (EMC Certification)
  • Antenna siting, RADHAZ, Mutual Interference, exclusion zones with trade-offs between systems
  • Supporting TEMPEST assessments and aware of current TEMPEST standards
  • Development and mentoring personnel
    Your skills and experiences:

    Essential:
    • Experience in modelling capability and be able to determine when the use of approximate or full field tools is appropriate and the most cost-effective technique
    • Knowledge of HERP, HERE, HERO and HERF (Radiation Standards) safety standards, and appropriate DEF STAN, Mil-STD and NATO STANAG's. Knowledge of EMF Directive and CEMFAW Regulations including implanted medical devices
    • Experience of EEE related UK defence standards DEF-STAN 59-411, related US standards (MIL-STD 461) and Civil EMC standards
      Desirable:
      • Ability to manage support Electromagnetic Environment Effects problem sentencing activities to an agreed programme and budget
      • Ability to perform an EEE gap analysis and assess consequential EEE risk and develop risk mitigation schemes in support of product and integration teams

        The Engineering team:

        Would you like an exciting opportunity in our growing Electromagnetics team where we design, develop future and current platforms by integrating and providing through-life support to naval combat systems that enable navies to protect nations.

        You will be looking at all aspects of the subject, starting with equipment from an assessment point of view - ensuring regulatory EMC compatibility, meeting appropriate standards, through to integrating on large number of different platforms - land, naval and air. Assessing whether equipment is safe to work with, has controlled emissions, and is susceptible other emitters, intentional or otherwise. Understanding this and being able to design solutions to protect against all of these, aspects will be a key part of the job.

        This role is extremely varied and will utilise your technical depth - one day could be spent at a land-based test site, the next at sea on one of the Royal Naval vessels. It is a growing area with potential to become a senior team member and scope for management opportunities.
