Salary: £47,683-£52,426 dependent on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Work collaboratively with teams across functions to define Human-Machine Interface (HMI) requirements and specifications in line with project needs and industry standards
  • Design and deliver user-friendly cockpit HMI solutions that meet aviation regulations and improve pilot experience
  • Conduct user research, such as Hierarchical Task Analysis (HTA), to understand pilot behaviour, preferences, and decision-making processes
  • Develop wireframes and detailed mock-ups to illustrate HMI concepts and support prototype creation for assessment in full mission simulators
  • Test HMI designs on software and hardware platforms to ensure consistent performance and usability
  • Adjust and enhance HMI designs iteratively based on feedback from usability testing and insights from industry and customer test pilots
  • Contribute to ongoing flight test activities by supporting the delivery of reliable and effective HMI solutions in operational environments

    Your skills and experiences:

    Essential:

    • A Degree in a STEM subject, or equivalent relevant experience / qualifications.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced and innovative environment.
    • Excellent communication & collaboration skills
    • Experience of; Human Factors, and/ or Systems Engineering, and/ or Computer Graphics, and/ or Software Engineering

      Desirable:

      • Experience in designing any type of User Interface such as web site or apps.
      • Familiarity with DOORs and Visio.
      • Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and standards (e.g., ISO 9241-210, MIL-STD-1472, DEF-STD-00-251) would be a plus

        The Typhoon Cockpit Team:

        The Typhoon is the UK’s primary multi-role combat aircraft and plays a vital role in maintaining national and allied security. The Typhoon Cockpit Group is currently looking to welcome an Interface Design Engineer (HMI/ UX) to the team.

        Our mission is to ensure that Typhoon pilots have the right information, in the right format, at the right time?"especially in high-intensity, operational environments. We achieve this by designing effective Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) that combine visual displays, intuitive controls, and tailored audio alerts to support fast and accurate pilot decision-making. A well-considered cockpit layout is essential to maximise performance and pilot effectiveness.

        As part of the team, you’ll have access to cutting-edge simulation tools?"including in-house simulators and a full-scale, immersive Typhoon cockpit environment.
