Principal Software Engineer

Salary: Up to £75,900, based on your skills and experience.
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our software solutions. Your responsibilities will include:
- Deriving and maintaining software requirements from a baseline set of systems requirements.
- Producing and maintaining software designs that meet these requirements.
- Transforming designs into deliverable software solutions.
- Conducting peer reviews and verifying solutions across Maritime Services.
- Leading technical reviews and authorizing software engineering designs.
- Acting as the Engineering technical lead for software solutions at a sub-system level.
- Maintaining software solutions to address defects and add new functionalities.
- Supporting the development of individuals and teams to enhance skills and competencies.
- Assisting in the creation of software estimates for sub-systems.
We’re looking for candidates who bring a wealth of experience and knowledge, including:
- Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language.
- Extensive experience with high-level design methodologies, particularly UML.
- Strong understanding of the software lifecycle and various models (e.g., Waterfall, Agile).
- A BEng/BSc in Computer Science or a related Engineering or Numerate subject.
- Familiarity with software standards (e.g., ISO/IEC/IEE 12207).
- Knowledge of Ada95 is a plus.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
- Comprehensive understanding of configuration management and experience with related tools.
- Understanding of model-based techniques is advantageous.
