What you'll be doing:
- Responsible for the design of mechanical marine systems for the next generation of warships
- Responsible for ensuring the latest technology is integrated into these systems which support our net-zero and optimised crewing aspirations
- Be an integral part of the Future Business team tasked with gaining competitive advantage over business rivals whilst delivering concept designs which are safe, cost effective and to requirements
- Responsible for Research and Technology projects to uncover and mature the latest technologies in the Marine Systems environment
- Managing time constraints and budgets to produce high quality deliverables in a timely manner to support a fast-moving bid-phase
- Development of graduates and industrial placements within the team including product safety and product environmental aspects
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
- Experience in a Mechanical Marine Systems design environment
- Experience in the design, build, integration, support and operation of Naval Ships
- Knowledge of processes and tools used in Marine Engineering
- Incorporated Engineer status with relevant institution (or demonstrably working towards)
Desirable
- Modelling/ simulation/ software development skills - or knowledge thereof
Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution.
Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation.
Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Future Business and Technology Marine Systems team:
The Marine Systems Team within Future Business and Technology are responsible for both the integral design of concept ships for competitive bids and also the development of technologies which ensure designs are incorporating the latest technological developments while ensuring business competitive advantage.
We are currently responsible for two streams of technology theme; Automation & Crewing and Sustainable Energy.
These technology themes provide funding for academic studies at universities or with commercial partners and for internal research papers to be produced.
Currently we are also responsible for maturing concept system design for the next generation of Royal Navy Warships preparing ourselves for competitive bid-phases which potentially secure the orders for decades of work to come.
