What You'll Be Doing:
  • Provide Software Expertise: Collaborate across multiple projects, offering specialist technical advice and guidance.
  • Define and Develop Architectural Artefacts: Create and assess software architectures to meet system requirements and support future reuse.
  • Establish and Maintain Design Processes: Enhance tools and processes for developing robust, scalable, and secure software architectures.
  • Ensure Toolchain Compliance: Work with DevOps to ensure tools are licensed, OSS-compliant, and integrated into the build process.
  • Lead Technical Governance: Conduct peer reviews and uphold software processes within Maritime Services.
  • Promote Continuous Improvement: Support team skills development and maintain awareness of industry trends, especially in Security and Safety Integrity Levels (SILs).
Your Skills and Experiences:
  • Extensive experience with at least one high-level programming language and design methodologies like UML.
  • Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, including Agile and Waterfall models.
  • Proven experience in leading software development activities and mentoring teams.
  • Solid knowledge of software standards (e.g., ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207) and software safety.
  • Strong technical background with a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, ideally with Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.

As a Software Architect, you will be the technical focal point and design authority, developing software architectures that meet complex radar requirements. You’ll create robust, scalable, and secure middleware and application layers using modern tools and design patterns. Your role will involve ensuring compliance with OSS guidance and facilitating smooth implementation and integration processes.

Our workplace in Cowes is easily accessible from Southampton via a regular foot passenger ferry and a BAE shuttle service from the ferry terminal to the site.
