Location: Isle of Wight – Cowes or Portsmouth – BroadOak

Salary: Up to £85,700 depending on skills and experience, plus a bonus scheme. Part-time and accruing hours available. Let us know if you'd like to discuss these options!

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Provide Software Subject Matter Expertise: Collaborate across multiple projects, offering specialist technical advice and guidance.
  • Define and Develop Architectural Artefacts: Create and review software and data processing architectures to meet requirements and support future software reuse.
  • Establish and Maintain Design Processes: Enhance tools for developing and managing software design artefacts, ensuring robust and secure architectures.
  • Ensure Toolchain Compliance and Integration: Work with DevOps to ensure tools are licensed, OSS-compliant, and integrated into the build process.
  • Lead Technical Governance: Conduct peer reviews and uphold software processes within Maritime Services.
  • Promote Continuous Improvement and Knowledge Sharing: Support team skills development and maintain awareness of industry trends.
Your Skills and Experiences:
  • Extensive experience with at least one high-level programming language and design methodologies like UML.
  • Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, including Agile and Waterfall models.
  • Proven experience in leading software development activities and mentoring teams.
  • Solid knowledge of software standards (e.g., ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207) and Safety Integrity Levels (SIL).
  • Strong technical background with a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, ideally with Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.

As a Software Architect, you will be the technical focal point, developing and maintaining software architectures that meet complex Radar requirements. You’ll create robust, scalable, and secure middleware and application layers, ensuring compliance with OSS guidance.

Our workplace in Cowes is easily accessible from Southampton via a regular foot passenger ferry and BAE shuttle service.
