DEPARTMENT: Product - Authoring & Curation
LOCATION: London or Salford - Hybrid

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £80,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

We're happy to discuss flexible working. If you'd like to, please indicate your preference in the application - though there's no obligation to do so now. Flexible working will be part of the discussion at offer stage.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Delivering a world-class Short Form Video experience for audiences is at the forefront of the BBC's product and content strategies. That experience is only possible if our editorial tools and workflows are also at the cutting edge. The purpose of this role is to help us redefine our video publishing tools so that they are ready to scale with the ambitions of our strategy and the needs of modern audiences. We're looking for a Senior Product Manager with a forward thinking and creative approach to help us bring this to life.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

Our mission in Authoring & Curation is to enable BBC editorial teams to reach audiences across the globe. If you enjoy working in a friendly, collaborative and cross functional team where you will be given the space to develop your ideas with the support of your colleagues and leadership then this role could be a great fit.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, UX and editorial stakeholders to gather requirements, assess value, and prioritise initiatives that align with organisational goals.
  • Product Leadership: Leverage your product skills to make informed decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and communicate effectively across the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Go-to-market execution: Establish success metrics and KPIs that reflect both business goals and audience satisfaction, monitoring ongoing product performance and taking action to improve where necessary.
  • Discovery: Define and commission user research, using the results to identify audience needs and new product opportunities.
  • Stakeholder management: Influence and build trust with stakeholders of all levels, gaining their sponsorship for your product vision.
  • Product strategy: Understand and articulate the way in which your roadmap helps to move the broader BBC product strategy forward

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrable experience in product management, ideally within a media streaming or content tooling background.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading complex software development programmes that bridge multiple teams and departments.
  • Technical Fluency - the ability to engage confidently with engineering teams, understanding systems and workflows.
  • Skilled in prioritisation and value-driven decision-making, utilising data, user research and testing to analyse problems and balance user needs, technical constraints, and strategic goals.
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully shaping, launching and scaling complex products to market.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Technical understanding of how metadata can be used to define and extend digital media.

If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we'd love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.

There will be two stages. The first explores your approach to product management and how you align with BBC values. The second includes a short written task completed in advance, followed by a discussion to go deeper on your experience. All interviews will be held via Microsoft Teams, and we'll make any adjustments you need to support your participation.

Before your start date, you may need to disclose any unspent convictions or police charges, in line with our Contracts of Employment policy. This allows us to discuss any support you may need and assess any risks. Failure to disclose may result in the withdrawal of your offer.
