Lead Developer

Development Lead (PHP) Location: Hybrid (Wakefield office, once a week)Salary:     £60,000 – £75,000 + bonus opportunitiesAre you ready to become a trusted technical voice for clients and a driving force within a talented web team?  My client are looking for a Team Leader (PHP) to join their growing consultancy. You’ll guide technical decisions, champion best practices, and help them to deliver exceptional solutions across a wide range of bespoke web applications.What You’ll Do:
  • Lead client meetings and calls with clarity, confidence, and technical insight
  • Deeply understand client systems, recommending performance and reliability improvements
  • Stay hands-on with development work (JavaScript, PHP, React)
  • Contribute to presales, scope technical solutions, and shape proposals
  • Collaborate with project managers to prioritise and deliver effectively
  • Mentor and support your team with code reviews, 1:1s, and career guidance
  • Drive high standards in code quality, maintainability, and performance
  • Use your dedicated L&D time to explore emerging tech (e.g., AI, cloud tools)
  What You’ll Bring
  • Strong web development experience with JavaScript, PHP, and React
  • Proven ability to assess and improve large-scale, business-critical applications
  • Excellent client communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience leading or mentoring developers in a technical team
  • Commitment to clean, high-performing code
  • Skilled in Git, Agile and/or Waterfall workflows
  • Excellent problem-solving, planning, and communication skills
Nice to have:
  • Experience in a software consultancy environment
  • Familiarity with cloud services, especially AWS
