Wireless Research Professional
Why this role matters Who We Are BT’s Wireless Research Team is at the forefront of innovation in radio access and Wi-Fi networks. We explore the fundamental and emerging technologies that boost performance, efficiency, and architectural flexibility of practical wireless communication systems - while also investigating entirely new services that wireless networks can enable. Our research includes: Advanced modelling and simulation Lab testing of cutting-edge technologies like SU/MU-MIMO and active antenna systems, or channel access mechanisms Radio channel measurements and real-world trials This is an entry level role and if you have a recent relevant degree or work experience, we would love to hear from you. This role is based in Ipswich and our hybrid working model means you are expected to be in the office 3 days per week. You'll Have The Following Responsibilities This is a graduate / entry-level role where you’ll apply your curiosity and technical skills to research projects in 6G and Wi-Fi. You’ll help develop solutions to complex technology and business challenges with real impact on BT’s networks and services, while learning from experienced experts in the field. We don’t expect you to arrive with industry experience – but we do expect you to be able to demonstrate your passion for wireless and related areas. We'd love to hear from you if you:
- Are studying for, or have recently completed, a degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Communications, Computer Science, Physics, Maths or similar)
- Have a solid understanding of wireless communication principles from your studies (e.g. PHY/MAC layers, cellular and/or Wi-Fi systems)
- Can show evidence of your interest in at least one of these areas:
- Radio propagation or network planning
- Digital signal processing
- Test and measurement
- Wireless system design or performance analysis
- Have programming and data analysis skills (e.g. Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch or MATLAB) developed through modules or personal projects
- Enjoy working collaboratively and have enthusiasm for experimentation and innovation
- Built or analysed a wireless or communication system
- Ran simulations or experiments and interpreted the results
- Worked with real data, especially RF or network data
- Applied AI/ML techniques to technical problems
- Hands-on experience processing or analysing wireless/network data (e.g. from SDRs, testbeds or lab setups)
- Familiarity with lab or test environments (e.g. spectrum analysers, SDRs, channel emulators or chipset tools)
- Understanding of data handling and AI/ML model evaluation
- 10% on target bonus
- BT Pension scheme, minimum 5% Employee contribution, BT contribution 10%
