Portfolio Manager Onboarding Lead

ROLE OVERVIEW

Balyasny Asset Management is seeking a hands-on technologist leader to scale our Portfolio Manager (PM) and Analyst Technology Onboarding function. You will:

• Own the end-to-end technical onboarding program for new investment teams.
• Build, mentor, and manage a small squad of implementation engineers / specialists.
• Act as the "implementation product owner," translating PM requirements into defined, repeatable solutions on the BAM Technology Platform.

This high-impact role offers broad visibility across investing, engineering, and executive leadership, and is ideal for a technologist who thrives at the intersection of solution design, project delivery, and client enablement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

TEAM LEADERSHIP & STRATEGY

• Recruit, coach, and develop a high-performing team.
• Set OKRs and KPIs to drive continuous improvement
• Design playbooks, training materials, templates, and automations to accelerate time to risk for new teams

PROGRAM / PROJECT MANAGEMENT

• Manage the onboarding pipeline from intake to post-go-live review for Technology.
• Maintain integrated project plans, dependencies, and risk registers.
• Escalate complex requests to specialized engineering pods and track to closure.

TECHNICAL IMPLEMENTATION & ENABLEMENT

• Provision and configure research, data, and trading environments (Python, AWS, Airflow, GitHub, Coder, etc.).
• Coordinate bespoke data ingestion (market, alternative, proprietary) via APIs, direct feeds, and file transfers.
• Deliver live, role-based training and develop self-service assets (videos, notebooks, runbooks).

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT & REPORTING

• Serve as primary point of contact for PMs, Analysts, Investment COOs, and Tech leadership.
• Provide transparent status, risk, and KPI reporting.
• Lead post-live transition to support and leading continuous feedback loops.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 10+ years in hedge-fund, prop-trading, fintech, or SaaS implementation roles, with 5+ years leading people or projects.
• Familiarity with Python, SQL, Linux, AWS/GCP, CI/CD, containerization, and modern data pipelines.
• Proven success in client onboarding, requirements gathering and workflow design for front office investment teams.
• Familiarity with market and alternative data sets, real-time feeds, and data-engineering best practices.
• Exceptional communicator able to bridge quants, discretionary PMs, and deep-tech engineers.
• Resourceful owner mindset; thrives in fast-moving, ambiguity-rich environments.
