Background The Real Time Gross Settlement service (RTGS) and CHAPS, the wholesale payment service, are key to the UK's economy.Over £775 billion is settled each day across this critical national infrastructure.
In April 2025 we launched the renewed RTGS service, enhancing resilience, improving user functionality, strengthening our end-to-end risk management, creating wider interoperability and enabling greater access.
The success of the Renewal Programme's delivery approach set us up for our current ways of working. We have embedded a Product Management approach to continually improve the renewed RTGS service, using agile techniques and a customer centric approach that supports innovation a delivers value to our stakeholders. We also continue to deliver innovating changes through our Future Roadmap team, who are focussed on large scale changes for new products and services.
Role and responsibilities This role reports into the RTGS Lead Business Analyst in the Technology Strategy and Architecture division with services provided by the role delivered in the RTGS Technology Domain.
The role will be focused on applying Business Analysis skills to all proposed changes to the RTGS applications. A key aspect of the role is to work withproduct owners, project managers, business teams and technology teamsto help them define and shape the future roadmap for RTGS over a multi-year horizon. This will also require being clear on where the technology choices are unique to the RTGS agenda and where it should align with the Bank's wider architectural direction or controls.
The Business Analyst will work in partnership with the business to help understand, analyse, and document technology and business operating and change needs, and to apply business change expertise to enable the business to achieve their outcomes. The domain is diverse and complex so a variety of skills are required from this role, including but not restricted to, understanding the business operating model, understanding how changes to the operating model will impact organisational business processes, managing the requirements lifecycle for data and systems implementations, developing strong links between the Payments Directorate and other parts of the business including Technology.
This role requires confidence, analytical ability, and effective communication skills. You will need to influence managers and colleagues and facilitate the development of technology enabled strategies and investments with the business.

Key responsibilities
- Responsible for working with the wider Technology Strategy & Architecture (TSA) teams to ensure that standard tools and findings are being shared with TSA.
- Produce detailed As-is to To-be documentation - clearly mapping and articulating the changes occurring across Tasks, Roles, Skills and Structure.
- Impact analysis on changing business processes and structures, to help highlight the severity or nature of change to the operations.
- Ensure all business analysis outcomes are completed in accordance with pre-defined high-level processes, practices and procedures.
- To encourage and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Engagement and management of multiple stakeholders to support the delivery of all products, working within the overall strategy and toBank standards.
- Designing and maintaining analytical artefacts that support the TSA division, including detailed documents that explain how the future will compare to the present to colleagues and systems.
- Participating and contributing to current and future design governance processes and boards.
- Representing RTGS in any discussion with colleagues from TSA to both advise and support the development of its services and architectural practices.
- Participate with and contribute to the BA Community of practice through attending meetings and sharing knowledge, experience and techniques.
- Strong exposure to analysing, creating and accurately detailing business and solution requirements using business process models, use cases and data models.
- Ability todevelop a deep technical understanding of multiple value streams across the RTGS environment.
- Highly collaborative personality and team working skills to facilitate engagement with colleagues such as Product Owners, Architects, security consultants, Technology domain leads etc.
- Excellent stakeholder management at all levels both internally and externally.
- A proactive problem solver with the ability to exercise independent judgement and strong influencing skills, knowing when to act on any key issues that require support from the leadership team.
- Ability to influence business direction and translate associated business plans and requirements into supporting RTGS and broader enterprise strategies and other direction-setting artefacts.
- Ability to regularly demonstrate best practice, articulating options, and any trade-offs to Business leaders. This to meet their needs and communicate the art of the possible where appropriate.
- Ability to understand and assess the difference between small, medium and large changes - providing assurance and controls on planned changes.
- Ability to build effective networks to drive credibility.
- Comfortable switching between product and project delivery methodologies.
- Educated to degree level ISEB / BCS BA Diploma certified, IIBA certification (e.g. CBAP) or equivalent.
- Ability to think critically, to develop long term strategies and target and transitional states, and to advocate those directions with business partners.
- Ability to effectively support a breadth of partners and demonstrate understanding of their expectations.
- A sound general knowledge of IT and technology solutions and paradigms, and to speak to the appropriateness or otherwise of their use in varying contexts.
- A good understanding of the relevant legislation and compliance for the domain.
- Experience of Agile analysis and delivery frameworks and methodologies, for example Safe.
- Experience of working in a Product delivery model.
- Ability to scenario plan, both formally and informally, to anticipate problems, issues and identify mitigating paths and solutions.
- Ability to self-manage and self-motivate.
- Experience of working in the payments industry.
- A desire to shape new and existing products, influencing decision makers through insights and analysis.
