Senior Database Administrator (DBA)
Job summary
Barts Health ICT is seeking an experienced and skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to lead on the Trust's large SQL database environments and work as part of the ICT Server Team.
In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, configuring, optimising, and developing the Trust's database infrastructure. You will ensure the availability, performance, integrity, and security of all databases across the organisation.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in SQL Server database administration, including performance tuning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and database design. Experience with virtualisation technologies and their configuration is also essential.

Main duties of the job
- Review, develop, and promote efficiency and stability across the Relational Database Management (RDBMS) environment, ensuring databases are secure and protected.
- Act as a technical lead and subject matter expert (SME) for database design, implementation, and optimisation across live and test environments.
- Monitor and tune database environments to ensure optimal system performance, integrity, and availability.
- Analyse, troubleshoot, and resolve complex database issues, minimising downtime and ensuring rapid restoration of services.
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures for database management, security, and maintenance.
- Lead technical delivery of database-related projects, ensuring completion within time, cost, and quality expectations, including risk identification and mitigation.
- Perform software installation and configuration, working with third-party suppliers where required.

Person Specification
Experience
- Proven experience in a similar position within a large organisation, preferably over 5,000 users.
- Significant experience (7-10 years) in managing SQL environments in virtualised environment.
- Some experience (2-4 years) in managing SQL cloud services
- Experience of supporting digital transformation projects (2-4 years) (migrating to the cloud, consolidating applications to one, consolidating application instances).
- Experience (5years) in technical project management, including planning, execution, and monitoring
- Proven track record in implementing security measures and managing IT costs through application lifecycle
- Collaborations to improve service delivery and innovation
- 5-7 years of experience in IT, with at least 2 years focused SQL Database Technologies

Qualifications
- Educated to a degree level or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.
- Professional Training Courses - MS SQL administration, Design, and implementation
- Relevant training courses (e.g., VMware, Storage Management, Hypervisor).
- PRINCE2 or similar.
- Certifications: MCSA Database Administration, MSCE: Data Management, ITIL Foundation
