Back End Developer (Kotlin / Java) - Outside IR35

We require a Senior Back End Developer to join a project to rebuild a long standing on-prem system as a cloud-native application on Azure.

Stack

• Kotlin and Java 21 on Spring Boot. Kotlin preferred, strong Java engineers welcome if open to writing Kotlin.
• Azure
• PostgreSQL on the new side, SQL Server on the old, change data capture between them
• Managed message bus, event-driven throughout

The role

• Most senior backend person on a small team.
• You decide how the services are shaped and what everyone builds to.
• You work out how each area moves across from the old system without anyone noticing.
• Day to day you're alongside engineers who know the old system inside out.

What you'll need

• Proven capability with AI-assisted delivery. The vast majority of the code here is agent-written, so you need real experience of building this way and the seniority to direct it, review it properly and push back when it's wrong
• Substantial backend experience
• Real depth on the JVM with Spring Boot - Kotlin ideal, but strong Java with appetite to work in Kotlin works.
• Domain-driven design and messaging patterns
• PostgreSQL
• Kafka, Service Bus or Pub/Sub
• Shipped to a public cloud, Azure ideally

You'll work remotely, with occasional trips to Glasgow.
