Quantitative Developer - Trading Systems (Python, UK Only)
We’re hiring a Quantitative Developer to help own and extend a live production trading system.
This role sits between trading systems engineering, quantitative tooling, market data, and production strategy infrastructure. It is a hands-on role for someone who can work directly on live systems, improve performance and reliability, and help bring new trading logic, analytics, and models into production safely.
We are a small team, so this is a high-ownership role with real day-to-day impact. We need someone who can contribute quickly, work independently, and make good technical decisions in a live trading environment.
This is not a pure research role, and it is not a general backend/software engineer role. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with production code, live system behaviour, data flows, debugging, and operational responsibility, not just analysis in notebooks.
Location: UK only
Applicants must already be based in the UK and must have the legal right to work in the UK. We are not considering overseas applicants or relocation cases for this role.
Working style: Mostly remote, with occasional in-person days in the UK for planning and coordination
Support expectations: Availability during core market hours is required
What Dou'll Do
- Own and improve parts of a live Python trading platform used in production during market hours
- Build and refine quantitative tooling, analytics, and production strategy components
- Work on market data ingestion, transformation, validation, and downstream usage in live systems
- Help integrate new models, signals, features, and trading logic into production safely and efficiently
- Improve performance, reliability, and operational robustness across critical system paths
- Develop and improve replay, simulation, regression, and debugging workflows to support faster and safer iteration
- Strengthen engineering quality through better instrumentation, testing, monitoring, and code structure
- Work closely with the founder and engineering team on high-impact priorities across system capability, strategy support, and platform evolution
- Contribute to architecture and technical direction in a small team where good work has immediate visible impact
Who This Role is For
This role is for someone who has already worked in one or more of the following areas:
- quantitative development
- trading systems
- market data systems
- execution infrastructure
- pricing / risk / strategy support systems
- real-time, event-driven production systems in finance
You do not need to come from a traditional quant-research background, but you do need to be comfortable working in a codebase that supports live trading activity and quantitative decision-making.
Essential Requirements
- UK-based only, with the legal right to work in the UK
- Strong professional Python experience in production systems
- Experience in a trading, quantitative, market data, execution, or other time-critical financial systems environment
- Experience working on live or operationally important systems, not just offline analysis
- Strong understanding of real-time or event-driven data flows
- Comfortable working in an existing codebase and improving it through refactoring, debugging, testing, and better system design
- Able to work independently and take ownership in a small, high-trust environment
- Comfortable supporting systems during important live operating windows when needed
Preferred Skills
- Experience with trading strategies, market making, execution systems, or pricing/risk infrastructure
- Experience with brokerage or execution APIs such as Interactive Brokers / TWS / IB Gateway
- Experience with replay, simulation, deterministic testing, or post-trade/debug workflows
- Experience with messaging/event-driven systems
- Experience with Linux production environments, observability, and incident response
- Experience integrating model outputs, quantitative signals, or analytics into live systems
What This Role is not
This role is unlikely to be a fit if your experience is mainly:
- general web application development
- standard SaaS backend development
- frontend-heavy product engineering
- data science or ML work with little production ownership
- analytics/reporting roles without responsibility for live system behaviour
What We offer
- Competitive salary, negotiable based on experience
- Performance-related bonus
- Mostly remote working, with occasional in-person collaboration days in the UK
- A lean team with high ownership and direct impact
- The opportunity to work on a live trading platform with a meaningful technical roadmap, including new functionality, improved trading logic, and production integration of new components
