The role of ourDigital Midwife is an experienced Midwife with knowledge of digital issues and systems within maternity services. This role ensures that clinical practices supported by digital technology meet professional standards. The role is to promote changes in the profession by utilising digital technology to enhance service delivery, improve service users' experiences, and ensure quality and safety. This role requires a forward-thinking approach to identify and implement digital enablers that support timely service improvements.
The role will report to the Lead Digital Midwife and will be a visible presence in both the Digital and maternity teams collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to foster effective working relationships both within and outside the maternity service. This role involves significant cross-boundary working, linking IT, system suppliers, and clinical staff to achieve safe and effective practice. A key aspect of this role is ensuring accurate data collection and quality from electronic systems, supporting both local and national data collection initiatives.
We will be recruiting a Full Time Substantive post with the potential for an offer of a 9 month Fixed Term/Seconded post.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities are:
- Build relationships within the organisation demonstrating Clinical credibility
- Share digital knowledge to improve Digital literacy and confidence of staff
- Encourage good communication between areas and the Digital Teams to ensure timely reporting and support
- Act as a resource to staff in using digital solutions ensuring safe delivery of care to our service users
- Offer expertise to Training Teams to support education on Maternity Digital Systems meet the needs of staff
- Influence and collaborate with colleagues in various disciplines, to advocate for digital solutions that enhance maternity care
- Provide support to staff when the systems are not performing in a way that is expected to resolve issues in collaboration with the IT Service Desk and external suppliers
- Investigate incidents when affecting a Digital System
- Be a key member of the team in Digital projects and follow the complete life cycle from identifying opportunities to optimisation
- Participate in testing of new and upgrades to Maternity Clinical Systems
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of data to local, Regional and National standards
- Supporting staff working in the maternity setting to understand the importance of good data quality
- Monitor data quality
- Be a System Administrator for Maternity Systems
- Working in collaboration with the Clinical Digital Safety Officer ensuring all systems have the requisite documents to provide assurance

Experience
- Clinical midwifery expertise
- Experience in using digital tools and systems within a healthcare setting
- Experience in implementing or supporting digital projects.
- Experience in staff training and development related to digital competencies.
- A practising specialist Midwife
- An experienced, autonomous Midwife
- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Awareness and previous involvement in Clinical digital safety and the processes involved.
- Experience with risk management and the reporting of incidents
- Working as part of project teams, or leading projects
- Previous experience in a similar level leadership role in digital health
- Experience in change management and service improvement initiatives.
- Coaching and teaching staff
- Management and leadership experience
- Experience working with regional or national groups
- Experience in change management and service improvement initiatives.
- Involvement in data analysis and interpretation to inform clinical practice.
Qualifications
- Registered Midwife with current NMC registration.
- Evidence of continuous professional development in digital health or related fields.
- Clinical Digital Risk management foundation course (e-learning and face-to-face session), or equivalent
- Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Health Informatics, Digital Health, Midwifery) or equivalent experience.
- Postgraduate qualification in Digital Health, Health Informatics, or related field.
- Formal training in project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile).
- Clinical Digital Risk management training to level of Clinical Safety Officer
- Formal leadership and management qualification
Knowledge
- Specialist knowledge of IT systems or will be capable of developing
- An expert knowledge of Digital Maternity Systems
- A working knowledge of other IT systems used within the organisation
- In-depth knowledge of maternity care pathways and clinical guidelines
- Understanding of data protection and information governance standards.
- Awareness of current trends and advancements in digital health
- Highly developed knowledge of the acute care setting, with an understanding of the different services and roles involved in delivering care
- Knowledge of the DCB0160 and DCB0129 standards
- Understanding of the impacts of healthcare IT systems on clinical practice and patient care
- Understanding of MSDS Submissions and the relationship with MIS
- Knowledge of the Nervecentre EPR system
- Knowledge of the BadgerNet EPR system
- Knowledge of local and national digital health strategies.
- Familiarity with clinical coding and data quality standards.
