Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Group IT Developer within our DevOps Team. Your role is to scope, develop and maintain applications and systems supplied to both internal and external customers. You will be required to work to an agile methodology and support systems across a variety of environments and tools, maintaining high-quality, secure code while collaborating with a cross-functional team.

Principle responsibilities:

In this role you will be instrumental in scoping, developing, and implementing new systems as well as new features on existing web and desktop applications. Your responsibilities include collaborating with stakeholders to define project requirements, producing clean and secure code, and ensuring the integration of new features meets the expected standards. You will also focus on maintaining the health of the codebase by addressing technical debt and adhering to best practices, contributing to the longevity and security of our software.

Your role requires agility and flexibility in using a variety of tools and systems to meet business needs and project goals. You will be expected to contribute to our modernisation initiatives, investigating and adopting new technologies, migrating, and enhancing our Legacy systems and ensuring seamless integrations.

This role will collaborate closely with a cross-functional team and the wider business community, driving projects from conception to completion, providing operational support, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining high standards of code quality, security, and system performance to ensure robust, scalable, and efficient software solutions.

Key Skills/Qualification/Experience:

  • Extensive experience in Backend technologies, including SQL Server, MySQL & API Development
  • Experience with 3rd Party API Integrations & complex Server Side logic
  • Experience in NodeJS frameworks including ReactJS, NextJS, NestJS & other web technologies
  • Experience in Frontend Web development technologies, including HTML, CSS & JavaScript/Typescript
  • Extensive experience in version/source control using Git or related technologies
  • Strong understanding of modern code development practices and the SDLC
  • Strong understanding of performance optimization
  • Understanding of Test-Driven Development and automated testing solutions
  • Understanding of DevOps tools and practices for CI/CD
  • Problem-Solving Prowess
  • Natural candour for problem-solving, even when faced with sparse information.
  • Ability to investigate complex issues systematically.
  • Keen eye for identifying, documenting, debugging, and resolving defects in software features.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate and improve existing systems and processes.
  • Agile Environment Savvy
  • Experience working within an agile environment.
  • Experience utilizing project & ticket management platforms such as Jira.
  • Experience of peer reviewing code for continuous improvements & ensuring clean code.
  • Willingness to learn new skills through training.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deliver results to deadlines.

Personal Attributes, Core Values & Behaviours

  • Equivalent of 2 years or more utilizing the listed technologies in a commercial environment.
  • Degree in Computer Science or similar field desirable, or applicable certifications and/or portfolio.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability.
