Job Profile for Hardware Engineer- RF45454

Position: Hardware Engineer

Location: Stevenage

Salary: £40,000-£50,000

Our client, based in Stevenage, are a rapidly growing UK-based health tech start-up that's building wearable technology with the power to support people living with neurological conditions.

They are looking for a Hardware Engineer to join the team. This is a key role in a small team: they do not currently have a dedicated hardware engineering department, so the successful candidate must be a self-starter who can work with ambiguity, set direction, and communicate effectively across internal stakeholders and external manufacturing partners.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Own PCB redesigns and iterative improvements (cost, reliability, manufacturability, power efficiency, component availability).
  • Diagnose and resolve field and production issues (root cause analysis; corrective actions; ECOs).
  • Improve battery life, vibration drive efficiency, robustness, and overall system reliability.
  • Manage obsolescence and supply-chain risks (alternates, second sources, lifecycle planning)
  • Define hardware architecture for next-gen (MCU/SoC selection, power architecture, sensors, comms).
  • Produce schematics, PCB layouts (or direct and review layout output), and engineering documentation.
  • Lead prototype builds and bring-up (debug, test, validation, design iterations).
  • Drive DFM/DFA planning in collaboration with the manufacturing partner.

Hardware Engineer Requirements

  • Significant professional experience designing electronics and PCBs for shipped products (ideally wearables, consumer electronics, or medical/wellness devices).
· Strong schematic capture and PCB design capability, including low-power design techniques. · Proven experience taking products from concept prototype NPI production. · Solid understanding of: o Power management (battery-powered systems, charging, LDOs/DC-DCs, fuel gauging). o MCU-based embedded hardware, clocks, comms buses (I2C/SPI/UART), debugging. o Motor/actuator drive circuits (haptics), EMI/EMC fundamentals, ESD protection. Hardware Engineer Salary & Benefits · Salary - £40,000-£50,000 · Monday to Friday (09:00 to 17:00) · On-site position · Holiday package · Pension scheme
