Java Software Engineer
2 X Software Engineers (Java / Data Platform)
Remote First (Must be UK based with full right to work with no sponsorship)
£75,000–£95,000
**Monthly meetups in London - fully expensed /optional. Access to offices should you prefer
I’m working with a global consumer platform processing millions of user events, building systems that turn raw behavioural data into real-time insights and recommendations.
This is not a typical backend role. It sits at the intersection of data, distributed systems and product, working on one of the most unique user datasets in its space.
They’re looking for a Senior Engineer to join a small, high-impact team.
The role
You’ll be working on systems that ingest, process and make sense of large-scale, messy datasets, helping to power insights, recommendations and user-facing features.
You’ll be:
- Building and evolving distributed systems that process high-volume user data
- Developing services that power APIs, real-time pipelines and core platform functionality
- Working closely with product and engineering to shape how data is structured and used
- Improving data quality, consistency and scalability across complex datasets
- Contributing to architecture and technical direction within a small team
Tech environment
- Java (core language)
- Python (supporting)
- Spark / Dataproc
- Distributed systems and data pipelines
- AWS / GCP
What they’re looking for
- Strong Java engineering background (5+ years)
- Experience building distributed systems, data pipelines or high-volume services
- Comfortable working with large, imperfect datasets
- Experience in product-led or scale-up environments
- Engineers who take ownership and enjoy solving complex problems
Nice to have
- Kafka, Hadoop, Cassandra, Redis or similar
- Experience with real-time or event-driven systems
- Exposure to recommendation systems, ML or data-driven products
- Cloud experience (AWS or GCP)
Why it’s interesting
- Millions of users – real impact at scale
- Complex data challenges – not just CRUD systems
- Small team, high ownership – no layers
- Strong product + data intersection
- Remote-first with optional London meetups
If you enjoy working on data-heavy systems, solving real-world scale problems and want to be in a team where engineering genuinely shapes the product, this is worth a conversation.
