With a heritage spanning 160 years, we have more than 700 lawyers and legal professionals and over 600 staff based in Bristol, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Ipswich, London, Norwich and Sevenoaks. We are defined by our Next Level Law proposition. We work with our clients as a proactive partner, horizon scanning and thinking ahead to the changes, challenges or opportunities that they may face.
Next Level Law is also applied to our people. Our collegiate culture means everyone is encouraged to achieve their next level in everything they do. RollOnFriday recently ranked us as the 6th best law firm to work at in 2026.
With our ambition to succeed, comes a strong desire to make a positive contribution to the communities we serve, and we are committed to delivering the objectives set out in our ESG strategy. Diversity plays an integral part in all that we do, with female partners comprising 45% of our partnership.
The team you will join
Our IT Team sits within our wider Business Services Division. The team is responsible for all aspects of IT across the business, covering User Support, Infrastructure, Security, Data and Development Teams.
This role is a rotational position through 4 of 6 IT teams: Service Delivery, Security & Compliance, Data Systems, Product Delivery & Product Development, Infrastructure, End User Computing
The work you will be doing
- Rotate through four six-month placements across four of the six IT teams over a two-year fixed term contract, gaining hands-on experience in each area.
- Take on real tasks and small projects within each team, not just shadowing.
- Build an understanding of how each part of IT supports fee earners and the day-to-day running of the firm.
- Work alongside a mentor in each rotation who will guide development and give regular feedback.
- Take part in soft skills and business development training that runs alongside the rotations.
- Contribute ideas and a fresh perspective while moving across teams and seeing the bigger picture.
Build a network of mentors and colleagues across the whole IT function, informing the choice of permanent role at the end of the scheme.
Please note that this job profile is not an exhaustive list of duties but merely an outline of the key components of the role. You may be required by your line manager to take on additional responsibilities when requested.
What we are looking for
- A genuine interest in a career in IT, with curiosity about how technology supports a business.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to build relationships across different teams.
- A proactive, can-do approach and willingness to get involved.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage several priorities while moving between rotations.
- A collaborative mindset — comfortable asking questions and working as part of a team.
- 2:1 degree or above in any discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Eligible to work in the UK.
An interest in the legal sector and an understanding that technology in a law firm exists to support fee earners and client service, not as an end in itself.
