About the Opportunity
Blackedge Consulting is supporting the expansion of AI hyperscale data centres across South East England and is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with a strong background in complex MEP and mission critical environments.
As AI-driven compute demand accelerates, electrical infrastructure is at the core of hyperscale resilience and performance. This role offers the opportunity to lead electrical design across highly regulated CAPEX projects, delivering robust, redundant and scalable power systems that underpin next-generation digital infrastructure.
The Role
As Senior Electrical Engineer, you will lead the design and coordination of critical electrical systems across hyperscale data centre developments, from concept through detailed design and construction support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead electrical design across all project stages, from feasibility to IFC and construction support
- Develop and review MV/LV distribution systems for hyperscale data centre environments
- Design resilient power architectures incorporating N, N+1 and 2N redundancy strategies
- Coordinate integration of UPS systems, generators, switchgear and critical power infrastructure
- Oversee load analysis, short circuit studies and fault level calculations
- Ensure compliance with UK regulations and international data centre standards
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, CSA and commissioning teams to ensure fully integrated MEP delivery
- Review technical specifications, contractor submittals and vendor proposals
- Contribute to design risk assessments, value engineering and constructability reviews
- Interface directly with clients, consultants and specialist supply chain partners
About You
You are an experienced electrical engineer with a strong track record delivering data centre or mission critical projects within regulated CAPEX environments.
Essential Requirements:
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
- Significant experience in data centre, hyperscale, or other mission critical facilities
- Strong expertise in MV/LV systems, critical power distribution, UPS, standby generation and switchgear
- Proven experience designing resilient electrical systems for high-availability environments
- Strong understanding of redundancy principles (N, N+1, 2N)
- Experience working within multidisciplinary MEP design teams
- Familiarity with BIM and digital engineering environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
