Commercial Lead
Blair West are supporting Ocular Systems Limited to find an Applications and Product Marketing Lead.
Ocular Systems is a technology start-up developing advanced 3D particle metrology tools for high-value manufacturing industries, including pharmaceuticals, batteries, agritech, and advanced materials.
This is a pivotal early-stage appointment, reporting to the CEO, and is a newly created role as the business transitions from a university spin-out to a commercial enterprise.
The opportunity:
- Develop and validate commercial applications for Ocular’s patented metrology technology that deliver measurable customer benefits.
- Shape and communicate the product roadmap, value proposition, and go-to-market strategy in collaboration with the founding team.
- Create engaging marketing collateral including presentations, website content, white papers, and application notes to articulate Ocular’s unique value.
- Lead customer engagement initiatives, building relationships with OEMs and end users to generate hardware and software sales.
- Collaborate with the technical team to ensure product features align with customer needs and commercial objectives.
- Act as a senior role model within the business, mentoring the growing team and supporting a dynamic, inclusive culture.
- Own the early-stage commercialization process, balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution.
You’ll be the ideal candidate for this position if you have:
- A degree in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline (Masters or PhD highly advantageous).
- Several years’ commercial experience in technical, customer-facing roles within instrumentation, scientific software, metrology, or data analysis tools.
- Proven experience in applications development and technical product marketing, ideally for hardware-software integrated solutions.
- Energetic, hands-on approach with the ability to independently drive multiple initiatives in a start-up environment.
- Commercial acumen to translate technical capabilities into compelling customer and investor value propositions.
- Technical credibility to engage confidently with engineers, scientists, and academics.
- Strategic mindset with ambition to build a successful business and navigate early-stage challenges.
- Collaborative style, capable of building teams and working alongside experienced founders.
