Connectivity & Messaging Engineer

Connectivity & Messaging Engineer — Senior Platform/Infrastructure Role

Salary: £85.000 - 120.000

Location: London

We’re partnering with a dynamic technology-driven organisation looking for an experienced Connectivity & Messaging Engineer to help build and evolve a core distributed messaging and connectivity platform that underpins mission-critical systems.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the development and evolution of a scalable internal messaging and connectivity framework that enables robust, secure communication between services and external endpoints.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver new integration points, interface layers, and connectivity gateways that support evolving business needs.
  • Implement, maintain and optimise high-throughput, low-latency messaging solutions with a focus on resiliency, observability and automation.
  • Drive improvements to test automation, CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes to ensure high quality and repeatable releases.
  • Provide operational support and incremental enhancements for a 24/7 production environment, contributing to performance tuning and incident response as needed.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong software engineering experience writing clean, efficient and well-tested code in statically-typed languages (e.g., modern Java or equivalent).
  • Deep understanding of object-oriented architecture, concurrent systems and messaging paradigms such as point-to-point, publish/subscribe and event-driven design.
  • Experience throughout the full development lifecycle — from design and code review through to automated testing, release orchestration and monitoring.
  • Practical knowledge of core network principles (TCP/IP, UDP, routing, subnetting and related protocols) and integration protocols.
  • Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud-aligned engineering patterns.
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for simplifying complex systems, optimising runtime performance and enhancing developer/operational workflows.

Nice to have

  • Experience with connectivity protocols like FIX or other financial messaging standards.
  • Prior work on large-scale service-oriented or microservices platforms.

Why it’s exciting

  • Join a collaborative engineering environment at the heart of a high-performance platform ecosystem.
  • Opportunity to influence design and tooling decisions that directly impact system reliability and developer velocity.
  • Exposure to modern infrastructure patterns and real-time connectivity challenges.
